    Hornet F1

    Hi There;
    I am wondering if anyone has had any success running a Hornet F1 tunnel with the stock outboard. There's lots of info out there from guys who had problems and guys who did mods to this boat, but I am trying to find out if I should just go for a new outboard for it now, or will I get a couple years of decent running with the stock outboard/leg.

    Thanks People!

    The stock flex shafts do not last in them, direct replacements are hard/impossible to find. Unfortunately when the flex breaks you can lose the entire prop/stub shaft assembly with these outboards.
    A while ago I was looking into more realistic looking outboards for a scale Coast Guard rescue boat project, this was one of the ones I looked into, LOL changed my mind and did a normal inboard setup with a home made kort nozzle on a different boat. The Aquacraft motor was discontinued and the graupner were more $ new than I wanted to invest into the project.
    REK makes a good lower unit, a buddy runs one on his Kneeler, I have a converted K&B lower on my tunnel hull, another buddy has a Hyperperformance bullet drive on his Hotshot 45 tunnel hull with a big outrunner on it. All work fine, the REK did break the stock cable but his aftermarket replacement has held up for an entire season.
    The proboat has problems with the quality of the bushing the prop shaft runs in, not sure if any of the aftermarket assemblies will fit it.
    My next one will be OS, I'm almost positive it has the most adjustability built into it. I believe you can adjust the angle of the drive without changing the angle of the pivot pin, this can really help dialing in the cornering, if I can ever get access to a milling machine with a rotary table I've designed a new mount for my K&B that will allow this but I need to machine the casings.
    Where in Ontario? We're in Peterborough.
    If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

      Where in Ontario?

      I am in Kincardine, on Lake Huron shoreline between Goderich and Port Elgin.
      Thanks for the info. It's pretty clear I made a poor choice buying the RTR Hornet. Should've just bought the hull and added my own drive bits. Oh well, this happens when you've been running RC boats < 1 season. Also I am a 1-1/2 hr drive away from nearest boat club so that doesn't help.
      Haven't seen the REK outboard yet, I'll have to look it up. So far if I have to replace the whole thing I was leaning towards the Fullers unit. I really don't want to spend another $200 by the time I out a motor on it. Even the Fullers is $95 cdn.

        I bought a Hornet for my grandson and the flex cable didn't last long. Found another similar one and cut it down to fit. The ESC got wet and went south so I built a real wood radio box and replaced the motor with a Birdie 100a ESC,3650 Turnigy motor on an REK lower I had laying around. I think you can find a used K&B 3.5 lower fairly cheap on here or IW. Better than the REK anyway. The plus side is the little 27 inch hull works pretty well as boats go. The stock motor and ESC are junk. Upgrading it you have a neat 2-3S setup.
