flex cable came apart, too weak?

I have a Dark Horse 30" mono with a leopard 4074 2200kv motor running on 4 cell. I am going for speed and had a x448 and the .150 to 3/16 flex cable came apart at the shaft where it is glued to the cable. do I have to much strain for this flex cable or just a bad cable? I have another cable but do not want to loose any more props if the cable is going to break again.

I found a weld flex cable assembly and was thinking it would hold up to the power, but wanted some other input incase i need to upgrade the whole drive line.

The brazed cables are no doubt stronger but if you continue spinning those large props i would upgrade to the .187 flex cable. Thats alot of torque on a .150 flex!

That setup is really too small for the .150" cable. Replace the stuffing tube and cable to 0.187" parts. Some 0.150" cable is weaker than good 0.125" cable.

Ive had the glued flexes come apart to many times now. I only used soldered or brazed ones from here out.

I agree that a 3/16" flex is a better option, especially spinning a 48mm prop.
I think a properly glued flex is just as strong as anything else though personally. Many of the biggest, most powerfull boats use flexes secured with Loctite 648. The flex you had must have not been prepped well before assembley.

well with this info I may just get a welded .150 flex for now. I was thinking of selling this boat since I do not have a club close to me or anyone to run with. so I figured I would go for speed and just play a little. As far as the prep for the flex cable I did not do it but I was not even on the throttle full when it came apart, it was just a test run to see the balance of the boat.I had run the boat previuosly with a aquacraft 1800kv and a m445 full throttle from almost a dead stop.

IF your gluing them with loctite, and they are coming apart, your using the wrong stuff. There are also oil resistant Loctites that are permanent.
I use a 150 to 3/16 in my genesis, and found that it should be replaced with a full 3/16 cable, as spinning a prop over 42mm will usually end up with a slip at the collet eventually, even if fully tightned

I run .187 in everything i run including my pspec boats. It may be a lil more weight but ill never, knock on wood, break a cable.

@fla350tt- you can always secure you flex with a flex saver like this

well I have decided to go .187. the driveline was not set up perfect and had to have a short sharp bend in the stuffing tube. so I am resetting the motor angle, making a new stuffing tube.

no i do not glue my own cables. I do have a genesis also with a leopard 3674 2200kv with stock drive line so I will kepp a look out for slipping problems

link does not work, but I have seen flex savers but I have not had a problem losing the whole cable just the shaft that came unglued.
