    MG24 prop size? pitch?

    thanks for looking

I have a idea on swapping my MG24 to the MG29 BL set up with esc and internal bec thanks to the knowledgable people on here, but here is my new NOOB question.. I would like a stainless prop for the boat, or brass, or whatever.. but its hard to find more detailed specs on the boat, shaft size? 3/16 maybe? and prop pitch? 2.5? what would be my best upgrade? I'm not looking for the fastest rig, just spice it up a bit..

    thanks everybody

I think I remember that thread. IMO the MG29 motor is a bit low in KV for this 24" boat depending on what you are trying to acheive with this boat.

First set a goal of what you want to do with this boat then help is much easier.

    I don't own a 24" I own a 29" version with offset and really completely modded.

Reason I say KV is possibly too low if you are looking for higher speeds, you would best do it with a 2S or 3S battery system because of space issues. Not only that the stock MG 29 uses a larger prop for higher speeds than the 24" version which can cause torquing problems and possibly handling problems in rougher water in the turns.

That said if I were to mod it I would use a 3800 to 4400Kv motor on 2S x 2P depending on amp draw and cell quality. Why? Well a 24" boat is sort of a shoe in for a N2 offshore hull and in "N" classes they run from 3800Kv up depending on the person, hul, etc...
    A 36mm x 50mm brushless would do well up to a 3665.

I have a motor in mind that would be nice and it is on sale somewhere in China. Steve at OSE sells 28mm x 60mm and 36mm x 50mm Leopards that would work very well.

The prop.. Stock is 34mm diameter and most likely 1.4mm pitch like Octura x434 plastic. An upgrade prop would be an x435 aluminum or ber. copper. These props are 1/8" shafts. proboat sells the upgrade stainless prop same size as stock. A very nice peop at $10. YOU WILL NEED TO BALANCE AND SHARPEN IT TO GET THE MOST FROM IT. Oops caps...

The 2.5 pitch I think is the total pitch of the prop but, I'm not sure??

What is the hull quality like? is it a strong ABS?? I see the hull only is $97 locally. It would be interesting for N2.

this is my first boat but the hull seems to be built quite well, and theres lots of room for a dual battery set up.. theres so much to learn for these little boats, but lots of fun! I really apreaciate all the great info you have given me!! like I said its just for fun, but I would like to make it faster and learn more about RC boats and there drive train...

Is it possible for you to post some pictures? The ones on PB site aren't that good... I mean of the inside to get an idea of the inner space. They only give one shot that has no real depth of field. I really like this hull and I can get the hull only locally for $97 plus tax. It's a fair sum for a plastic hull but, as with the 29" it comes with some innards too. I'd like to use my own hardware.

One of the motors I talked to you about is almost here for me to inspect. I ordered a second 4400kv one too. Hopefully they are up to snuff.

For your needs maybe a 3500kv motor would be good. That or the 3800kv one and you can adjust speed and run time with prop size with either. You want to sticj with a can size near to what you have. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd like a BBY 26" scat cat or one of these. The scat Cat is race proven but, we don't race N2 here anymore.

How about you start a MG24 thread in the Proboat section of the forum for easy reference? Post up some pics wit hbetter contrast than Proboat did.
