Hi guys, i took this out of a piece of junk i bought and got stuck with. it is new. i dont know about outrunners vs inrunners, i know the difference looking at them but thats all. the esc is the flier version of the 280 fightercat esc.the fightercat out runner is 1180kv 30000 watts or so i was told. can i use this with 6 or 8s in a 37 to 41 inch cat and what can i expect. or give me some recomendations.

Yes you can use it in a cat that size, if you prop accordingly. I know nothing of your esc but the motor is probably pretty solid and thats a low kv for most smaller boats but will give you good run time as your setup will be more efficient than say a 2200kv/6s setup. Anyway don't expect to set any speed records with the boat if you want components to run cool. So answer is yes, you can run a motor of this power output efficiently in a boat of the size you mentioned, got any ideas on the hull you're looking at? Fightercat has nice stuff, as does Horracing.com, I have dealt with both companies and have had good experiences. -
thanks for the info. i do have a FC Daytona hull, it needs a ton of work. not a FC problem but due to the original owners incompetance. what is the pro's and cons of an outrunner.Comment

outrunners run without water cooling. usualy have more torque than an inrunner. (not too much more, but more.)
keep everything AWAY from the motor while it is running. the CAN portion of the motor spins and can make a mess of things if something
comes in contact with the can while the motor is running.
I run twin outrunners in my 47" Insane mono and love them.
If you do not have the programming box for the ESC, get one. they are worth their weight in gold.
you can e-mail me for the instructions if you do not have them.

yes, they do run hotter than inrunners due to the air cooling effect they have from their own design.
on my twin outrunner mono, they usually run at around 155-170Deg. FComment
