    Carbon parts

Ok so I am in the middle of building a FC fantasm 41" cat and have been looking at other people's builds and noticed people are all making custom carbon fiber braces and what not... Where are u guys buying carbon sheets from and is it hard to cut yourself?

    I buy mine from hobbyking,
you can get it in sheets that are like 1.5, 2. 2.5 mm sheets
you can cut it with a Jigsaw with a fine blade. but ive found easier to just use a thin hobby saw.
Rememeber to wear gloves and a dust mask, carbon dust is BAD

It would take about 3 weeks to get depending on the shipping that you choose

I made all my templates on paper, spray adhesived to the CF, then cut with dremal cut off wheel, sanded smooth, peeled off paper.

Dont use a saw when cutting CF.
Bad idea. The fiber catches, and can de-laminate it. Use a abrasive cut off wheel. If you have to use a saw, use something with just carbide crystals and no teeth.

I have used my dremel 4" table saw with a carbide blade and get very smooth cuts. Be prepared as the dust is worse than FG on your skin.

Clamped a jigsaw under a 1/4" plywood base and used one of these.

Can't saw I've done carbon plate but I've cut lots of fiberglass plate. Makes nice smooth cuts. Still have the original blade.
By clamping a straight edge to the base you can use it as a fence to make long straight cuts.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

                        +1 siberianhusky

I draw my patterns on CAD the cover the CF plate in blue painters tape and spray glue the patterns to the tape. Keeps the CF from being damaged while cutting and the tape pulls off real easy. Then I use one of those diamond abrasive jigsaw blades and clamp my jigsaw upside down in my vise. It makes it very easy to see the patterns.

I will clarify. I use a dremal tool. But I use the very thin, brown stone wheel that is about 1.25 inches in diameter for all my straight cuts. It comes out perfect. Please use a respirator because of the powder dust it generates. I use a fine stone to sand all curves and corners.

I make my own carbon sheets and parts, cut them out on my cnc router or by hand using a small scroll saw.
