What should i use on transom nuts n bolts b4 painted whilst testing?

    Hi Guys,

Ive had the harware mounted on my boat, taking it on and off here and there to work on other stuff etc.

Now i want to mount everything for its maiden run.
So i need to use something that wont let the water get in around all the nuts n bolts.
Where i would usualy use a sika or silocone glue on my gel coat boats, i cant on this as i always hear painters saying dont use it where you want paint.
As the boats going to be painted in the near future after flipping it a dozen times and sorting out the setup, what can i use?
Cant really use epoxy as i need to dissasemble everything again for paint..
    Cheers Ryan

    Ryan,

3M Strip Caulk can be rolled into any shape, is VERY sticky/gummy and doesn't harden. Will prevent water intrusion and can be scraped off easily then completely removed with a solvent like lighter fluid. Messy, but'll do what you want. Available at automotive paint stores.

Bluetac works a treat in tramsom holes and what not, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-Tack it's cheap, clean, effective and very easy to remove. I used to form a small tear drop shape around the bolt and a little on the nut will also help hold the nut in those tight transom areas while getting the bolt through and started, once tighten the blu-Tack is forced into any gaps in the transom and bolt and you can simply pull away any remainding blu-tack from around the nut and bolt head becoming an invisable seal. I've also used it successfully to fill un-needed tramson holes left after moving trim tabs with the plan to fill them with epoxy once sorted and months later and many run in between the blu-tack in the holes remains good. It's only my opinion from what I found works, it's worth a try.
