Seems to be all I've seen in threads like this Martin. Question (other than hull material/longevity of hull) is what makes it better? Is it handling or power or a combination of both? Or overall quality of build/ materials/ hardware?
Lots of reasons on the spartan besides the plastic hull, they chine walk a lot at certain speeds. But the worst problems are the electrics burning up when using 6s, the first Spartan was terrible for this while the second version was better with Castle electics fitted but still problems in this area on 6s.
Handle poorly (design problems), toy plastic hull and a bad choice of power system.
Then add in how badly Traxxas treated the people who bought the first version. I'd never buy a Traxxas product based solely on that.
They would actually ban people from their Traxxas forum for posting about the problems with the boat!
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
As with any boat, it depends what you're doing.
If you're interested in a performance hull that you can successfully race then go with a Revolt.
If you want something Ultra fast out of the box that will out-run any other RTR on the lake go with the Spartan.
Revolt was designed by an experienced racer. Spartan was designed by an engineering team.
Both boats can be upgraded. We had a Spartan trapping at the SAWS up in PA and with a few mods we got 60+ out of it.
I watched a Revolt out-perform the DF-26 at the 2012 NAMBA National Championships.
Spartan is gonna handle rougher water, but sporting a Revolt will gain you more respect with the know it alls at the lake.
Spartan comes with a more robust, reliable powerplant, but the Revolt comes with a more commonly raced powerplant.
Morral of the story, weigh your options depending on the app..
I just bought revolt30 and ul-1 used to own a spartan(Junk). Revolt all the way. just be aware you wan tto balence and sharpin your prop and sharp turn fins = less Drag in water. octura props work best for me
