    Mean Machine overkill!

I've recently switched over to lipo power and wasn't sure what to do with my 24 cell 12xl gear driven (1.22:1) MM. Today I ran it with 8s1p 25c 4800 lipo power. M440 for a prop. It was insanely fast compared to the nimh power, which was 47.6mph.
What suprised me was that after 3 runs the hottest part of the motor was only 115 degrees. The master navy 77 was only 87 measuring the temp on the heatsink.
Even though motor temp is low, will my 12xl's life be short?
Regardless, I'll get some video and gps,and amp readings next week!

LOL ,Man I think I'm too chicken to run that big of a prop on it! I was white knuckled on the pistol grip as it was!

Wow, it amazes me what you can do with a 77 amp hv controller.

I believe it's because you aren't getting the voltage losses with lipo like you would with nimh. When voltage drops under a high amp drain the motor demands more energy and takes it in the form of amperage and you get more heat. lipos are a plus in this area too.

That makes good sense to me, my data logger showed that with 24 nimh cells the voltage under load would drop to 24 volts (and it ran slower with a bigger prop, an X642). I only wish I'd remembered to bring the logger today. I'm glad I finally made the switch to lipo

Here's an interior pic, and a link to the 47mph vid. I look forward to posting a vid with the lipo power. It's much faster now!
