Advice for rtr 50mph+ minimal mods

Hey everyone, first post here after lurking for a while LOL. Seems like a wealth of experience is here for those lucky enough to be advised....

I'm after advice regarding purchase of an rtr (new or used) that will reliably run in the 50's+ and handle a little chop on a lake when the breeze comes up a little.

If there is an affordable option as an rtr that only needs minimal mods I'm open to suggestion. Was thinking that a DF35 is a nice hull (unsure as to whether theyre offered in rtr form - more research to do) or an Impulse 31 or similar although I fear the Impulse may be a little small?......

I'm interested to hear suggestions, and equally interested in used boats on offer with the right credentials. Biggest issue is I'm in Australia so shipping gets up there $$ LOL.

    Thanks, Ari.

Welcome to the best FE forum on the planet. There are a few folks here from your neck of the woods that may see this and give you a hand.
There isn't much in the way of RTR that will do 50 much less reliably. My advice is to start with an RTR that will run in the mid 30's to low 40's and learn what needs to be done to get it to run stable in the high 40's to low 50's. After that you can build a boat that will run in the mid 50's to low 60's without a lot of trial and error.

FYI, The Aqua Craft Revolt 30 with an M545 prop will do 47 mph. No other mods needed.

Pursuit mono from right here, if not 50 darn close to it out of the box. Much better than any than any of the RTR offerings from Proboat or Aquacraft.
Or a good used boat from the for sale forum.
Pretty easy to set up a mono to run well, just don't get crazy on the props until you have a feel for what you're doing.
It's also a boat that can be upgraded pretty easily to be a pretty good race boat if you decide to go that way. Can't say the same for any of the RTR boats, even in the "spec" classes people use the motors but not the rtr hulls.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Read the OP's first post. The Revolt and UL-1 are not suitable for rough water. The Spartan is closer to what the OP wants, but I'd be loath to recommend that one.

He said a little chop. I guess it depends on his meaning of a "little chop". My ul1 used to run better in some small chop.
I agree the spartan would be a good choice if it wasn't a plastic hunk of junk.
Kintec has rtr pursuit monos that might be a good choice

I suppose the obvious question should be, what is your budget?

If it is RTR space, then your main choices are the Proboat Impulse31 and the Aquacraft Revolt30. Stock they are probably under 50 but would give you a good platform to work with.

For what you want, it'd be best to buy a used hull and hardware then get some advice on what motor & esc to use to get the reliability and performance you want. Otherwise you'll spend a forutune on an RTR. The RTR boats are fun to get em going 50 + but once they blowover not many can survive at 50+ I've seen spartans split apart into pieces and everything at the bottom of the lake. I've seen mystics, geicos split at the front seam without a blowover. I'm sure if you look around here you can find a rtr or close to rtr setup for about the same price as a proboat or aquacraft.

I think this is good advice if the goal is 50+. But for someone new, starting with an RTR and keeping it a reasonable speeds is a good way to get orentated to the hobby. Plus spares are a no-brainer if you need to do a repair to get it back to stock.

It can be daunting to build out a hull the first time. My first boat was a Proboat Fastech-- worked out great, taught me the ropes. But agree trying to push RTR hulls too fast can end badly...

I started with an Impulse 3 mos ago. Quickly swapped out motor/esc and made it go 50, now it is pretty thrashed. I wish I had known enough to just buy a used setup on here, like a Delta Force, but I wasn't even on here yet. Like Dana said, my UL-1 is one of my favorite boats, close to stock it does 50, but can be finnicky and not so good in chop. I have a hard time beleiving a Revolt does 47 with just a prop change, unless that is 6s, in which case longevity is probably an issue, but I could very well be wrong.

It's funny, even tho it's an older boat, the ul1 is still the fastest rtr out there reliably. Granted the spartan may be a little faster, but it needs 6s to do it and stock electronics just cook. Now proboat put out some 6s boats with the wrong kv motors to handle it lol
Proboat should just make hulls and that's it.

Thanks guys, I have read so much here and spent a couple of hours reading Millseys thread LOL. Great guy but a couple of hours away from me and I saw all of his mistakes that kinda put me off a first time build. I guess from here I need to know which hull is best up to abuse and a couple of inches chop in an rtr form.
I first looked into a spartan but was quickly turned off by everyones comments etc. I guess stability should be high on my list too as I dont have a boat/kayak etc for retrievals etc. I have been looking in the for sale section and saw the ul1's available but not sure theyre suitable. I guess the other problem is people willing to ship to OZ!
Big thanks again for all the advice.

With all of the reviews I have read on the impulse 31, what speed is possible reliably and what mods are required to achieve them?
Otherwise I'm looking for a used DF Pursuit 35?
