Why Don't People Convert Car ESC's For Boat Use?

Why Don't People Convert Car ESC's For Boat Use? Boat Esc's to me sound like they have less value per buck than car esc's. They have lower burst rates and usally cost more. Yes they might be water proof, but you can do that verry easily. Like take this esc: http://www.brushlesshobbies.com/LT4-...mer_p_113.html and stick this on it: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=etti-a044 then shrink wrap it?

Completely the opposite, actually. Most boat esc's are far more robust than car esc's, plus they are ready to go. Don't waste your time trying to convert.

      One word.....COOLING
A fan doesn't do much good inside an enclosed space already full of heat. Too much effort to make them water cooled and still would be underrated.

Why couldn't this one be used as the specs for up to and including 6s r MUCH higher than most comparable wc escs. Great brand too.

Like he said, Hobbywing makes the Seaking series, watercooled, supposedly "waterproof" 180amp esc is $99.99 on the OSE store, and proven to be good in boats, click the link at the top of the page.
Also, the way car esc's are rated is a bit different, it may handle bursts of 150 amps like a car would have, but boats pull continuous high current.

people don't do it because it is a waste of time and money. Its like asking why don't people buy cars and add a bed to them, it would be cheaper then buying a truck.

I used to put a Novak car system in to my P hydro, work pretty good tho, with the right setup, its doesnt get hot either with no water cooled AND its not cheap compare to a boat system setup, my Schulze esc staying at the same temp with or without water cool =)), but I gues its Schulze.

How long would that ESC stand 980 amps - 1/10 second?
