    Painting my first hull.....HELP??

Hey all have finally decided it is time to pretty up my osprey hull a little before summer hits. I have stripped all the old stickers off and wet sanded the hull with 800 wet and dry. Now do i have to prime it before i put a base coat on or can i start with the base coat/ airbrush the sanded fiberglass? I am planning on trying a bit of airbrushing on the hull, and i use waterbased paints to airbrush, so what kind of paint should i use for the basecoat/clear? I know the waterbased paint isnt the best to use but its what i have and need to keep the costs down.

    Thanks for the help

No need prime for gel coat boat, but 800 is still to thick, finished with 1500 or 2000 at least, I used to paint my boat with PPG to $.99 can from warlmart, not big different, your skill is more important, bigger boat is harder to paint.

Gelcoat is its own primer. Done deal.
Waterbased is ok, but you are better off to protect it with clearcoat. Urethane two part clear is the best

Thanks Dana, i was planning on clearcoating it, dont want to put a heap of effort in for it to get damaged easily.

Kevin thanks for your help as well, if it turns out any good i'll post some pics up
