    Rudder placement question...

I might have to offset the original rudder on my Genesis in the future, not because of handling problems, but the prop diameter is limited now as the tips are running very close to the bottom of the rudder bracket. Planning to install a stronger motor so suspect the prop diameter will go up....

I prefer to make a new bracket to mount the rudder on it's own to the transom. (Don't like the idea of the rudder hanging sideways of the strut via brackets or other 'constructions')

My question is about the forward/backward placement, or distance from transom. Should it be in original position, further forward or backwards? and how does the different fwd/bwd position affect handling?
Would a position exactly beside the prop minimize propwalk?

    Thanks in advance,
    GJ

EDIT: Also; I can see the advantage of moving to the right for handling in turns, but as I'm only running for fun (no right turns only) would it be better to move it to left sponsoon ? (thinking drag & torque here)

Keep the leading edge of rudder inline or behind leading edge of prop for best turning capabilities.
As for prop walk, move your strut up if you're getting it on a cat.

mostly about hydro setup but some very very good general info about rudders, placement and tuning.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Wow that is some great info, I will have reread it several times to fully absorb it!
