    Boat Parts Availability

So i'm looking to get into boats for farely cheap as i dont know if i will like it or not (coming from cars). I am thinking about something like this: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...50mm_ARTR.html

They stock it in their USA warehouse, so it will get to me fairly quickly, but if i break a part the only place i can get parts specific to the boat is from their china warehouse. My question is: Are boat parts "universal"? For example, will i be able to change out a prop shaft from a different boat into it if it were to break? With cars, parts are specific to the car, but some can be made to work with others. Are boats the same way? Will i be able to buy this without worrying about needing to wait weeks for parts?

    any help appreciated!

Yes you will be able to swap out parts, as a matter of fact most folks upgrade the parts shortly after they get these chinese boats.

An alternative would be to buy a used, higher-quality RTR off the OSE Items For Sale forum. Boats like the SV27, Miss Geico, Motley Crew etc. are much higher quality than the cheezy Chinese stuff. They may be a bit more expensive even used - or not - but they may need fewer upgrades to give great performance.

A friend of mine purchased one of the "inexpensive" chinese hulls-- he had to replace the motor, the esc, re-epoxy the hull to make it water tight, cut back the strut tube, and changed the flex/prop.
He's an experienced boater and knew how to make the changes-- this would have been very discouraging to a new boater. The reason he went this route by the way was to get a mono hull with a flood chamber which are generally hard to find. OSE carries boats that work, plus you can easily get spares and upgrades.

This is the same boat as was sold under the Joysway Sea Rider brand name. It is very well made and EXTREMELY fast using the recommended 3S power. If you are just getting into boats, you might find it a bit quick as a first boat, although you could tame it by running on 2S power to start with.

Quality is unlikely to be an issue unless you start to modify it, when you would begin replacing parts of the supplied fittings anyway
