I'm building an FC Cheetah. I've seen most builds here are using a large skeg style strut. Is there an advantage to these on this hull, or is it just preference ?. Some are saying it offers even better turns.
Regular strut vs. skeg Strut

I don't have a Cheetah, but some cats require a skegged strut to turn well. The skeg adds side resistance to help prevent hooking in turns. But a large rudder can do the same thing. My Aeromarine SprintCat 40/60 - which has a similar bottom to the Cheetah's - runs fine without a skeg but rudder length is important.

I seen just about everyone runnin big rudders at least. So maybe good with a speedmaster 40, without the skeg, and the speedmaster 60 rudder, that way I wouldn't have to mod the strut for 3/16. Kieth Bradley boats are using both skeg and big rudderLast edited by AngLeo; 10-15-2012, 11:56 AM.Comment

Ang if the bottom of the Cheetah is like the SprintCat like I am told it is then I would go with a regular 40 strut and a 40 rudder like I have on my Sprint. I copied Jay's (Fluid) setup and the boat handles like no other. It will def out turn my Hydro and my hydro turns like its on rails. You can always change just the strut blade later and try the skeg strut with a smaller rudder but my guess is that you will like the longer rudder and no skeg.Team Liquid DashComment
