What"s the best way to remove motor mounts?

    Hello,

I have a 34" Venom Segad that I am in the process of stripping down so I can lay in some fiberglass cloth for reinforcement. I'm new at this process and just want to make sure i go about removing them without damaging the hull. Can someone tell me what's the best method for removing the epoxy and fiberglass that's holding the motor mounts in? Should I use a dremel tool to slowly remove a little at a time?

Also, how many layers of cloth should I add?

    Thanks,
    Keith

If Ron's method doesn't work I'd use a cutoff wheel on a dremel.
      white geico w/2200kv 3674 leopard 53.5mph 4s2p, geico w/ 1800kv outrunner 52mph on 4s2p, genesis w/2200kv castle 53.8 on 4s2p, impulse 31 w/2200kv castle, stock p1 and ul-1

For two years I could not remove the stock battery trays in my Miss Geico. Then one day I had a "Ron's moment" ( actually a nasty flip), and bingo, problem solved. Besides minor repair I was glad that I got rid od those useless trays.
I don't wish this on you, good luck with removing it, I wanted to do the same but was afraird I will damage the thin hull , so I decided to use the stock mount. I find one layer of medium weight FG tape was enough for me to stiffen up the hull considerably. I used this:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXK255&P=SM I find this to be easier to lay down in a hull than a cloth which I need to trim. I lay them strip by strip with a little over lapping. Cut to a manageable length. Use http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...p?prod=dh-pt40 or West System epoxy.

Ok, I could see how that would be more manageable than the cloth. As far as that epoxy goes, I like that you have longer than 12 min working time like you'd have with fiberglass resin. Like I said, with this being my first time trying this process I think the extra working time would help a lot. Thanks for the tip.

I never had any luck triming the cloth, they just come un-weaved at the edges, these tape has sewn edges on both sides, all you do is cut arcoss the width, usually for me is better. Just my $0.02

I just saw your other thread with all the pictures, looks great, I have to say that for some reason I thought you were refering to the KOS mono, I was refering to what I had done with mine. You may be better off to ask again since it is a cat, some people use CF to reinforce, I am not here to muddy things up for you but I don't like to BS on something I have not done personally, sorry for the response, blame it on Ron's funny reply.

I've found that this does not always work. But could be a viable solution if you need practice repairing a cracked seam.
