LOL, your going to get as many opinions as there are radios available.
I personally prefer what is available locally, would rather support the local hobby shop.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
Perhaps it wold be best to decide what you need, rather than what I use. I am a racer so reliabilty and flexibility are key. I ran a Futaba 4PK and a Spektrum DX3R with fine results, but those are high end radios and may not fit your needs or budget. You will definately want a 2.4 gig system. Things to consider:
* Do you race? Advanced adjustments might be an advantage.
* How many models do you or will you have? If you buy too little radio now and later get more boats, you may have to buy again.
* How much do you want to spend? This is key to your decision.
* Are rechargeable batteries important to you? AA battery costs can add up.
* Do you want a pistol grip or stick transmitter? Seems simple, but if you are used to flying with sticks that may work better for you.

You'll like it! been using that radio and esc combo for 3 years since I retired my 20+ year old Futaba setup. Would you believe I can still get new RX's for that old Futaba!
This winter I'm going to install a backlight kit in my Spektrum, the increase in contrast will make it a little easier to read outside. Not an issue for most people but I think I'm heading for bifocals!
