    21 rigger

ok guys, i'm going to ditch the gas cat to electric for now, i'm going to build a 21 size rigger and put electric in it. should be in my budget, the rigger i'm going to build, is my own design, i've been in the nitro, gas boats hobby for 25 years. the lenght of boat will be 34'' overall ,tub will be 4'' wide inside, and the boom tubes will be 7'' apart so the battery will set inbetween them, i'm planning on setting the motor at 1/3rd of the hull lenght, sponsons will be made of bluefoam with 1/16th plywood overit. the sides of tub will be 2'' to 2 1/4 high. will be useing the speedmaster hardware and 3/16flexshaft. HERE'S WHERE I NEED A BIG BROTHER, need to know which :
battery=mah,c rating, _s,_p need to run around 15 laps on official course.
esc= size and all is needed with the esc.
motor= number size ,from cheap to expensive

and where would be the best place to buy.

LET SETUP FOR RACEING, BUT IT WILL BE MOSTLY PLAY

Go a little smaller like 30 inches and you can run 4S1P 5000mah paks. with ever favorite UL-1 motor for about 70 bucks. Your 34 inch boat will require 4S2P and a $230 to $270 Neu motor.

Oh they should chime in, there is a bunch of great guys hear. I type slow so I do not say much, that is to stay on track at work. The "21" may have thrown them. You have only had 4 views.

You can run a .150 flex shaft with the UL-1 motor too!

I missed answering the c rating go with 25 or better with Korean cells and 45 or better with Chinese cells

I don't think 5000mah will get you through 15 laps. The guys I was running with this weekend went through 4000 in 1 mile race, 6 laps.

Jeff, Why 15 laps? It is not nessary to mill like the Nitro boats, launch at 30 seconds go slow to the start. Electric won't stall!

If you do want to set up for racing, we need to know what class is available in your area. If there is a P-Limited Class, than do what Randy suggested. If it's P-Hydro or Open Hydro, than the bigger rigger would be better.

CHILLI, in my area there is no electric just gas boats,

jcald2000, 15 laps is just for play cause there no classes of electric in my area.

randy, i was figureing 3/16 cause of the size prop i need to use,

i was looking on the offshore .com at motors and esc's, and i found a combo setup ,hobbywing 180 esc and a 4047 leopard ,and the other was a ul-1 combo, which one would be my better choice. for my 34'' rigger.

IMO-I think the UL1 is better matched for a 30" rigger. The 4074 is a good match for what you want. 3/16 is a good sized flex for that combo also. Fifteen laps is going to be hard no matter what the set up. You'll be limited on battery size with the rigger. And you would have to prop way down to lower your amp draw. To the point of beind boring. How much battery room you have is going to be a concern also. You probably want at least 7000 mah or your run times will be very short. That means either one very large pack or two smaller ones in parallel. With two packs, weight and CG becomes an issue. Even with 7000 mah you are probably looking at eight hot laps with a conservative prop before things start getting too hot. The UL1 motor works on smaller riggers because the power matches up well with that size and the amp draw is less so usually a single 5000 mah will work. Thats why the P-Limited class is the most popular FE rigger class. Fitting batteries in a larger rigger can be a PITA. But I'm going to try it anyway next year. LOL

I am not up on the Leopard motor so I can not say. But the rotating mass with a 3/16 flex is a lot and the .150 will make the boat faster and be strong enough. also you will be running a 3/16 stub shaft so the props will fit. Chilli is correct in what he is saying. Also you will be slowing down the boat with a UL-1 motor in a 34 inch boat and limit your run time too.

so if i go to 30'' rigger i should go with the ul-1 set-up ( which ul-1 setup)with the .150 shaft then i can use 4s1p 4000amh packs, right. this would give me what kind of speed and run time.
should i go alttle narrower on my tub width also.

thanks guys we are getting somewhere now ,keep the help comeing.
