I believe it is the direction it is wound.

Correct, the cable should tighten once the desired direction of rotation starts.
Too many boats, not enough time...

Thanks. but i i'm still confused on the shafts when you have a boat with 2 motors what do you need 2 Flex shaft Left (Common). Or For Left Common. and for Right Reverse Wind ???

          Thank you

The two motors are not turning the same direction, they turn opposite of each other to cancel any undesirable torque/ prop walk. When you see a prop or shaft marked with a "r" that means right hand turn. The rotation is clockwise. Normal rotation is counter clockwise. This is viewed looking at the transom. "r" does not stand for reverse wind. ( you can look at it that way though).
So to make it clear: on a boat that has twin props, you need a normal rotation cable ( counter clockwise) and a "r" cable that spins clockwise.
You might ask why Aqua Craft's MiniWild Cat's motors turn the same way, the answer is that it is an entry level boat, the motors are not powerful enough to produce negative effects and the need to keep production cost to a minimum.
