Cool $4 TX mod..........no more AA Batts for me!!!

This little Battery cost me $3.86 and I had the small connector in my "box".

I was just sick and tired of buying AA batts all the time..............10-15 bucks each time. This 1100mah battery is a Li-fo (3.3v per cell) and it charges up to around 7v and will replace the 4 AA's my 2.4 tx's require. This mod took me 5 minutes and will save alot of $$ as i did it with my other 2.4 as well. I also got some small 3s Lipos to mod my 8 AA cell FM tx's for road rigs. The stock 4 AA batt holder will just come out when you take the TX apart.

Pic1. Take radio apart with several small screws
    Pic2. Small RX female plug
Pic3. Connect to the appropriate wires
Pic4. Insert batt and foam to fill void
    Pic5. The 1100 2cell Li-fo next to a 5000 3s.

    The Li-fo: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=20646

Thanks Sri, I'm sure others have done this or there may be a packaged "mod" deal you can buy, I posted cuz it was cheap and because some out there have not seen it done i would imagine.

Hey Jerry, I used a Li-fo cuz the voltage was closer to 4 "AA" alkilines, fully charged its about 7.2v as opposed to a fully charged 2s Lipo at 8.4v. It works fine and even the little red light for off/on is brighter LOL..................

I just used a 2s Lipo setting to charge it and I made sure it didnt go over 7.2v by keeping a cell monitor attatched to the lead. I shouldnt have to charge it but about once every couple months i would guess.

Does your charger have A123 setting? This is from Powerlab8 manual for A123 cells:

"This preset may also be used for LiFePO4 type batteries which have similar charge characteristics."

Here's a Futaba FM Digital screen Multi memory TX that came with an 8 "AA" cell tray stock. I use this for alot of my land rigs and this sucker EATS batteries like its alive. Got the 3s 1500 Lipo in, had to change the Batt lead to deans cuz it came with some real goofy one and I didnt have a match for the TX side.

When I turn it on the display now reads 12.6v............instead of it normally hovering around 11.6v with nearly fresh AA cells.

Quite pleased with my little TX upgrade session...............did two FM's and two 2.4ghz's

I bought some AA at lowes a while back set of 100 for $20 I think it was still have a few sets left after the season.
Then if I leave it on by accident its no big deal.

This is what I use for my Futaba 3PK. Can go 3 or 4 outings without a recharge, and best of all NO MOD required. GREAT upgrade.
