    Non-electric hydro !!!!!!

At the risk of being banned from this forum for life, here are some shots of my GAS powered hydro, Miss Zenoah.
No prizes for guessing what she is powered by !
It could be worse, at least its not one of those methanol/nitro motors.
I like the last shot because if it wasn't for the antenna you would think it was a full size boat.
Hope you enjoy the pictures anyway and will forgive me for poluting the environment.

Looks like an Insane Thunderboat hull. Nicely done.

You can't tell from the pics, but these things are HUGE. The Thunderboat class runs (mostly) dead stock G260's in the US and run around 55 mph or so. Great fun to watch race!!

I gotta get me one of them!!!

Nice boat Graham!!!! Very well done!!

I think us "Duel Fuelers" need our own little space here like the SVs and BJs.

                Hi Guys

It's great fun to drive and these big boats look so real on the water.
The basic fibreglass hull is made here in NZ as a 1/8 scale vintage Jones hydro and is 45 inches long.
I have set mine up to look like a 1/6 scale GP hydro and scratch built the cowl etc and spent hours making the dummy blower and bug catcher that cover the spark plug. I got a bit carried away with the scale detailing

The cats in the background are my own design 53 inch Eurocat.
The top one is the original that I scratch built and then we used as the plug.
The bottom one is Victory 1 and was the first boat from the mould.
I am still racing this hull design in our offshore races with my latest version Miss Longlite.
We better stop talking about gas boats, Steven might be watching.

I agree Doug. I think a gas thread would be quite imformative and interesting.

Due to a lack of FE racing I am moving into doing more gas. We have LOTS of gas races with LOTS of drivers. Last race we had nearly 40 drivers over the weekend.

I've got a Insane Gen 1 cat with a Toxic venom 260 in it. I am building out a Stryker sport hydro that will get a different modded 260 and finally I will be doing a gas version of the Sniper I have.

The fun part is that I can also race my big FE boats in our Open class at the gas races! So I can actually race the big FE boats too!!

One great thing about gas, much less fuss. Mix up a couple gallons of gas and go run for HOURS!!! I can run for over 2.5 hours on 1 gallon of gas. But the one weird thing to get used to is water getting in the boat, even during normal running!!
                      Don't get me started

For those that mght be considering a gas boat, don't misread Bill's post.
Gas boats are NOT trouble free and aren't for everyone. There is a whole list of things that can and do go wrong.
My advice if you are interested in building a gas boat, would be to visit a gas club and pay attention to the guy who has fast boats and finishes races. That is the guy you want to listen to, and take advice from. ( while you're there, talk to them about running FE only classes)
The attraction for me was being able to race with the Atlanta club as I have no plans to build an open anything. It also gives me something to do on windy days and while batteries are charging.

Great points Doug. Another big consideration is if you can even run gas in your lake, pond, river or what ever. Here in Nj there is only 1 lake that you can run gas boats in. It's over 50 miles from me. I am going to get one eventually. What I will have to do is run it in the back bay. That's going to be alot more work. I will have to flush, clean and lube the crap out of every thing in order to keep the salt from destroying the boat.

I have to drive 50 miles just to find a pond that I can run ANYTHING on, gas, FE, steam, nuclear, whatever.

There is one place closer, but it is very small and I cannot run anything bigger then an SV27 there.

Lots of water, just no access allowed.

Sorry if that was the impression I gave. Yes, there are a number of other things that need attention. Mostly what I was referring to was that all I really need is my TX, boat, and gas can for normal running. With my FE boats I have boat, batteries, chargers, charger battery, etc.

Like all boats gas needs maintenance, etc. Just far less field support equipment for normal running.

My advice if you are interested in building a gas boat, would be to visit a gas club and pay attention to the guy who has fast boats and finishes races. Solid advice. I was lucky because gas is a big deal at my normal lake. All kinds of gas boats to see and talk about and all kinds of racers to learn from. Plus I had a bunch of experience with gas airplane engines and so that was not much of a learning curve.

Out here the gas guys are open to running FE in Open. And the nitro guys will let us run any FE classes that we can muster 3 boats in. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get 3 boats together for FE racing.

Sort of the same. Mostly it gives me a place to race. And I can race my big boats in Open, so it's a win-win!!
