I'm from the UK so no gators where I boat but I'm currently holidaying in cancun Mexico and there are gators on the complex literally a couple if feet from the footpaths. Now I've only seen 1 in nearly 2 weeks but there are signs everywhere telling you where they are in the marsh, so it got me thinking do you guys in the states (and other places that get gators) have to keep your eyes peeled when boating? I went to gator land in Florida last year so I know how big, fast and dangerous these can be.

Yea I'm sanford fl and live on a nice size lake about 15 feet out my back door, and in the past 2 months with all the rain I have about 3 gators now in the lake,
no problem when running my boaats but I must keep an eye out when walking my dogs as I have seen them close to shore, so far they have not been an issue and the county is having a hard time locating them to be traped,
one is about a 5 footer maybe more and the other two are smaller. -
Here is the one I saw by the pool

That big really? I think they have to keep some sort of habitat for them cos the hotel complex is in their back yard really. If I'd known he was that big I wouldn't have got so close lolComment
