Ok before people start thinking that I dont know what I am doing I want you to hear me out first. I quit FE boating this year and got back into flying RC Heli and plane. One thing I learned this season in flying is that high voltage is your friend. I am flying 3s heli's with 6s packs and not only did my flight times improve with lower Mah packs but everything comes down after a flight cold enough to throw another pack in and fly again without a cool down period. I noticed that going from 3s to 6s just about cut my amp draw in half allowing me to go from 2200mah packs to 1200mah packs and still gain one minute of flight time. I would like to transfer that to my boat hull's next season for sure.
Right now I am running 4s1p (thats all that will fit) in my Sport 21 Whiplash hull using a Neu 1515 1Y motor and a Octura 1445 prop with a little work done to it. The boat is a rocket on the water and runs at a little over 60mph but for only 1.15 minutes or so. For next season I plan to build a new Sport 21 hull but this one will run a Neu 1515 2Y (1100kv) on 8s1P. My thought is that since I will be using the same Mah battery but doubling the voltage that I should almost cut my current in half and at the same time increase my run time by at least one minute or so. I am really hoping to get a solid 3 min run time on all my hulls next season with much cooler running temps on the electronics. Has anyone here run HV systems that can give me some real world number's? I am also planning to convert my two 45 size hulls from 6s to 10s or even 12s next season and I would hate to drop a couple grand in electronics just to have it be a waste of time and money. In my Heli's it has been money well spent but we all know that boats are a whole different animal.
