Dumas Hot Shot 7.5 tunnel electric conversion

I have a Dumas Hot Shot 7.5 tunnel hull and K and B lower half that I'd like to convert to electric. I plan on picking up the adapter from OSE but wanted an opinion on the esc motor combo.

I was thinking of using a stock Spartan esc and motor. Do you guys think that's a good choice? Im aiming for high 30's low 40's. What other options wound be good and what are your prop recommendations?

Is that an ABS version?

SirBudman32 is slowly working on the wood version. I think he is however going to do an inboard motor w/outdrive due to costs of outboard legs of this size.

Someone posted on his a T600 outrunner. Looked good to me and price is right. Lots of torque. I think with that size your going to need some serious power to go go go!

My son is running a Dumas Hot Shot 3.5 ABS with a K&B 3.5. He uses a Turnigy Typhoon 500 outrunner 1800kv on 4s. Boat runs great and the motor has tons of torque and everything comes in nice and cool.
I realize yours is a 7.5 but just saying the outrunners with the K&B on these hulls works good.

It is an ABS hull

I have and orion 120 amp (continuous) esc and a orion 2200 kv motor off my kyosho twinstorm. I also have a Titan 750 motor and an EVX-2 esc I could use but I'm sure it would be slow.

What do you guys think of either of these two options?

This is one of the first runs last fall of my buddies running 6s with a T600 on a K&B leg, it's a wooden version with a custom open cockpit cowl.
He's got it dialed in now and it flies, no recent video of it though.

Looks like the Orion motor does up to 600 watts, does that sound powerful enough? What is the max wattage of the spartan's 540xl?

7.5cc is about 2.2 HP

2.2 HP - 1640 watts.

Not big enough, not close.

What you have probably wont even put the hull on plane. Its just to small.

You would probably be best served getting something worth putting the gear you already have in, like a 25"-29" mono hull or a smaller cat.

Thanks for pointing out the hp rating on the k&b, I had seen it in the paperwork I have but didnt think of it when trying to figure out electric motor size.

So now I have a baseline. Looks like I'll need 6S or at the minimum 5S and a motor rated at about 80 amps.

Regarding my current equipment, the Orion stuff is on a boat already so I'll just keep it with the boat. The brushed stuff is just stuff I have in a bin do no loss not using it.

Give Kendt a PM, thats his username on here, he actually owns and runs exactly what you have, he can give you the lowdown on the props he has been running as well as all the data from his logger and setup info.
Always better to get info from people who actually own and successfully run what you're building, he has already made the mistakes with that conversion, might as well learn from him!

Great Vid mate , looking forward to receiving my Hotshot .45 back from England , where it is with Roy Cooper ( Fastonwater.co.uk) . The one I built has a Keda 40/74/1340kv with T180 ESC , it is going to run on the historic race course at Bristol Docks in the the near future . Given the fact it sports the famous JPS paint theme , it should rekindle memories for the locals. ....

To a degree I think the Hotshot .45 has not realized its full potential in R/C Boating , it's obvious from that you video you posted it is a perpetual rocket with handling to match in 6S form ....
