When I see your name when you first started posting on here I pretty much figured by your username it was you, what's up with Chris I know after he left the Mag he was endorsing some brand of RC and was doing a few online review's he was putting his name on but after that I have not seen anything of him.

Chris passed away a few years ago, I didn't know him well but I was good friend with a lot of guys that worked there over the years. We call ourselves the "Q"Comment

Do you know what happened to him,the last I seen was he left the Mag and then started lending his name to I think a big RC Retailer in the State's that put ad's in the Mag and like I said did some RC Video's for that company on the Web.
I also heard from a friend that new Chris and Raced in the State's every so often that Chris got fed up with the Mag and that's why he left,I know when ever you seen a review of the T-Maxx and E-Maxx when they first came out they had alot of problem's with the Slider Shaft's stripping really easy and nothing was ever said in the review's and it was crap like that that made Chris decide to leave or at least that's what he told my friend.I olny read Car Action because threre was nothing else and then I still read it because they alway's had the most ad's so you pretty much knew what was alway's coming out and new,but I also knew that nothing bad was ever said about a product in fear offending the Manufacturer and they may put there ad's in another Mag,I know other people that know some of the guy's from the Mag that worked there and they said even if it was not put in a negative light and there was a 2 dollar fix they could not say crap about in the review.

Yes I wrote for the mag too, and hung out there and knew a lot of the guys that worked there, It's true you couldn't bash a product but you could give pros and cons. The real problem with Car Action was the owner of the company that had the most ads in the magazine (not sayin names) he really screwed up rc and the magazines for a whlie, he really dictated what went in the mag and what they wrote about, he comprised more than 60% of the ad space in the mag and was always threatening to pull his ads if they didn't do what he said. He single handedly tried to kill nitro racing in the early 90's because he made all electric stuff at the time. He told them if there were more than 5 ads for nitro products in the mag he would pull his ads, or something to that effect. He also was also one of the main reasons Brushless motors took so long to become mainstream legal in rc car racing, if he couldn't sell brushes, springs, armatures, and com lathes he wouldda went out of business!!!! what a racket brushes for racing!!! when I was racing really competitively it was cut the com and a new set of brushes each heat!!! they cost about 3 cents to make and they charged 5 bucks a pair!!!! I would go through 20-30 sets of brushes in a race weekend.
There is a bio on Chris in wikipedia, not real thorough but enough. There is always politics involved with publications, they need to keep their advertisers happy, they're who pays the bills. We call ourselves the "Q"Comment

It's sound's just like Ernie Provetti founder of Trinity he just look's like a real prick in his picture's I seen in Car Action he alway's had this really smug look on his face, the first time I ever seen a Pic of him I could tell he was all about the money and being a Prick to put it kindly there's just people and you don't ever have to meet them to know that they are trash and represent everything that's wrong with are Hobby and everything that's wrong in this world, him and Brian Kinwald made a great pair when Ernie Sponsered him they play by there own set of rule's,I know Brian was famous for not liking to help his Team mate's in anyway or letting them know what his set up was,I understand the whole not Bashing a Car thing in a review but I think if the reviewer finds a know weak spot and can find a cheap fix they should be able tell people about it in the review instead of another article.
I know Greg Vogel left the Car Action to go to Extreme RC Car's or whatever one he went to,I met him one time at a Trade Show and he's a really nice guy and there's BS with him either.Last edited by wade7575; 09-04-2012, 06:43 AM.Comment
