I want to convert the boat and really have no idea what to get but i did a little research and this is what i think will work. let me know what yall think? BTW I need to buy everything off amazon because i have like $600 credit on their.
I have about 180 in the entire boat so should i just ebay the boat and get the king of shaves off amazon?

The motor and controller are probably a bit on the weak side...I have one and converted it and its a porky hull that needs more power. I have a Turnigy 180 controller and a Neu 1521 i.5D on 4S.....goes in the low 50's.....

dude convert that boat. these are great handling hulls. i think ul1 motor would work decent, but if you want to krank, throw a leopard motor in there. 4074 2200kv with t180 esc. youll get 50 easy with m445 prop

btw, the king of shaves is not a great idea. others will tell you of the quality. the hull you have will destroy that thing in corners, plus its a better made hull. also the venom electronics arent exactly great.

I converted a TC31. I bought the hull on ebay for $23 bucks. I loved it. Unfortunately, I had a bad Swordfish ESC that caused a short and a lipo burnt up, basically destroying the hull. I had a Castle NEU 1515 2200KV motor in it. This is a bit smaller than Doby's but bigger than the UL1 motor. It ran about 43mph and I did not have it totally dialed in yet. After, I put everything in it, it weighed over 7 lbs before batteries. You will need a a good size motor. I just cheked on Amazon and you can get a Castle NEU 1515 2200KV from Phil's Hobby Shop for $169. I have ordered many parts from Phil's and have had great luck. The Castle Hydra ESC is probably the best one you can get. I also own a King of Shaves and like Dana said, the hull cracks if the wind blows hard.

I run the Neu 1515 2200kv on 5s2p in my mean machine and hit 56mph -) these are great motors. I wouldn't try 5s on an equal kv Leo motor, not that Leo are bad, just not as good as Neu IMO. Either motor are good tho

For starters i would stay far away from a ul1 motor and this boat. The 31 is wide and heavy. The ul1 motor doesnt have enough torque. A 4074 2200 is also out of the question, at least in my mind.

Ive sold many setups for this boat I suggest 5s lipo. I suggest you look for a 40mm dia motor(something like a castle 1717 motor) in the 1800kv range with (2) 5s packs running in parallel. Runtime would be about 10 minutes with great top speeds.

I agree with Steven. Also, I would purchase the majority of my parts and supplies from here on OSE. Steven has by far, the best customer service and speedy shipping of any Hobby supplier. That being said, I would also get high quality batteries that are 45C and 5,000Mah. If you have to purchase most of your stuff from Amazon, you are going to be limited. I do not see an appropriate ESC there. Specifically, to answer your question, you will need at least a 180A ESC. The Hobby Wing Sea King 180A sold here at OSE ($99) is the minimum size you will need along with the correct size prop. (Which is a whole another discussion)

Also, something I have learned the hard way, always buy high quality parts, cost more up front but saves a ton in the long run.

You will probably spend more money converting this than buying a RTR boat. However, building something yourself is much more rewarding and educational. Just my opinion.

What's to convert other than putting a motor and esc in? Does it already not have the hardware radio and servo?
