flex shaft, leaking water need suggestions

Hey I have been running into issues with my FE boats getting water in through the flex shaft. Just wondering what other members do to keep water out of the hull/flex. Also I use teflon liners in my boats. Thanks guys.

Easiest solution is put a small piece of fuel tubing over the stuffing tube that extends 3/8" or so onto the flex cable. Forms a "seal" against the flex.
Don't put too much against the cable as it may cause friction issues.

The most common quick fix is to use a piece of silicone fuel tube ( same as your water cooling lines) on the collet side. DSCN0329_026.jpg.
I learned that this isn't always 100% fool-proof. If your drive dog has a much larger diameter than your stinger/stut, the water wave is pushed back as your boat travels, and if there is enough free play in the bushing, water is pushed up.
Also, on some Stingers there is a large gap between the end of the stinger and the back plate which is mounted onto the transom, you need to seal that with gasket or sealent.DSCN1857_1361.jpg
Too many boats, not enough time...

+1 on sealing the strut side. I've found all of my leaking stuffing tube issues were due to some problem on the strut side vs. the motor collet side.
