    How Racing Screws Up Everything

First off, this should be in the Upcoming Race Section, but there I'd be "preaching to the Choir". Maybe it should be moved somewhere else, just can't figure out where it fits. Enjoy it or dislike it, but worth reading (I think).

Too big for a post, so it's in Microsoft Word. Hope it downloads.

I think that about sums it up. I hard fought win or loss is were its at. Having a boat thats twice as fast as the rest of the field usually gets you either an easy win ( not as much fun ) or puts you upside down in a hurry ( also not fun ). I think this is why spec racing is now the most popular classes to race in. Good post Tony.

Awesome....bought my son a boat last year. 2 times around the lake and I wanted faster. Found this forum on New Years Eve. Asked a few questions and you (Tony) were the first to reply. You said something like "it's New Years Eve, why aren't you out partying". Why, because I got the bug too. 4 builds later and I'm hooked. Still don't know what the hell I'm doing but I'm enjoying myself. Hopefully start racing soon. Thanks for your blog Tony.

You nailed it Tony, great job.
20 years later I still hate unloading the car!
My unloading unfortunately has gotten easier, my 8s carbon rigger is at the bottom of the pond still after 10 hours of dragging the pond which is much worst than unloading the car. lol

Tony, You mentioned that you propped down because of warmer air and water temps. Have you burned up any UL-1 motors/ESC's in the past?

CORRECTION : Tyler's PT Stealth mentioned in the essay holds the P-Sport Hydro 2-lap record while it was configured for that class. Brian B. holds the P-Ltd Sport Hydro 2-lap record. Sorry guys.

Technically I didn't prop DOWN, I just didn't prop UP. The air and water was really hot and I held off using my super-killer-stator-unfriendly prop for that reason. I was going to use it for the last heat but knew Tyler would/could outdrive me so why risk the motor. [btw 5 SoCal FE racer's motors went bye-bye this season in answer to your question]Then Tyler, in a gesture of total good-buddy sportsmanship/altruism insisted that I get the lane one start. I really didn't want to rail-rub Tyler's absolutely gorgeous paint job, but I took the risk and had a rare, total racing experience. What I mean is that in most instances, if you're a mediocre driver like me you get to drive around mostly by yourself in the middle or back of the pack. In that last heat, urged on by Robert P., a really caring pitman, I got to run the first four (or maybe it was five-with all that adrenaline it's hard to remember) laps with Tyler right on my a** and the guys on the stand rooting me on. I'll tell you, it takes a really good driver to not fold under that pressure, which I finally did on one of the last turns, going too wide and letting Tyler get inside to nail the finish. If I could just bottle that feeling and let others experience it there'd be more racers out there fer sure !

Yes sir. I like those heats that are so intense I feel like I need to sit down afterwards.

                    Well said Tony.

You know I only run SAWS; but just like you, setting that first record gut hooked me for life…..very addicting stuff to be sure

And by the way, thanks very much for introducing me to all the great people that helped me get started in racing.

See you at the next race my friend

You are right on Tony! It's the good head to head races we all remember and it's one of many good reasons that we continue to keep at it.

And yes it was entry to the last lap where I got ya.

Tyler, I felt a little cheated when your signature "I'm coming to get-cha Tony" wasn't offered up. Was it that you were too stunned/surprised that my FE30 had so much in it & you had to focus that hard to get me???
