    Help with repower

Need some suggestions from the pros out there. I have an aeromarine avenger pro. Losing the gas engine and going BL. Can you give me a parts list of what I need to RELIABLY run at 70-75mph. I stressed reliable because unlike a lot of people here it seems, I don't have an unlimited budget. The most I can squeeze out is maybe $120/month for this stuff so I can't afford to be blowing up motors and esc's constantly. I have a bonus check coming in october for about $1000. So is what im trying to accomplish doable on that amount? If so, tell me what I need. Thanks for your input!!

A club member just built an Avenger Pro:

      Castle 2028 motor
      Castle 200 HV controller
10S2P/5000mAh packs - the best you can afford. All the power in an FE boat is in the packs. This should be the largest single investment.
      Modded x462 to x465

Another club member runs the same setup in an Aeromarine XXX, it is fast and reliable. You can shop around for the motor, they are often listed for sale used - it is hard to damage this big motor unless it got too hot or was soaked.

It depends as usual on the boat's attitude and the pack resistance. I estimate that going 65 mph the average draw is around 140 amps. That big Castle motor doesn't seem to get hot.

Ok let me throw this out there. How about doing a twin setup with either Leopard 4092-1390Kv 2Y or 5692-1090Kv 2Y?

If you want twins then go for it. IME they are more trouble and more expensive for the same speed and reliability, but they do sound cool.

About time somebody raised this question. What is the reason so many guys on this forum want to build twin powered boats? The sound??? Double the weight, Double the expense, and not much difference in performance, but yes they do sound cool.

I call it splitting the load on motors, esc's, and batteries. Real offshore race boats usually have at least two/three engines. If you were able to get by on one, wouldn't they do the same or no? I would assume that in a model boat, say running 70mph, batteries, motors, and esc's would not be as stressed as if you were only using one motor. And yes, you just can't live without the sound!!
