Many things have changed in electric racing in the last 20 years.....

What's the next major change that's coming? We have went from 05's running nicad packs to Coke can BL running batteries that can start a car. My guess would be full size fast electric boat racing. Any thoughts?

I'm keeping an eye on battery technology......have seen additive particles for lithium batterys, and all sorts of ideas. Bet we get way longer runtimes in the future.

Batteries that the military are using can take a nail through them and still work. Electric drag bikes now can compete with top fuel drag bikes, able to make two passes on one charge. I do believe we will be benifiting from safer lipo technology in the near future. Lots of great technology to come, I think the true tech stuff is going to be in power management. Bigger, better faster less heat more efficient use of power motors. One of my favorite under rated companies is international rectifier co (irf) the technology in power management is awesome. As for my opinion I just can't see how to get much better with our boats other than less weight and longer run times.

LiFePO4 cells will not catch on fire as easy as LiPoly but they are more heavy than LiPoly. All the charging is a negative on today's FE boats, I find myself wanting to run gasoline,

What will be nice is 20AH with the weight of 5AH, no charging for fun runs. Yes, I know you race guys have to top them off ;-) or I forget the term someone recently told me. That causes some fires doesn't it ;-)

With a charger that pumps out enough watts charging doesn't really bother me so much. In the next five years I'm more curious to see what online places like hobbyking, hobbypartz, nitrorcx, etc are going to do to the hobby. I hope battery technology conrtinues to improve. I am 24 and my dad built me a super hawaii with twin trinity monster marine motors, abc beryllium prop, and a speed switch from dragsters lol. Two 7.2v 1500mah batteries were run in series and the thing hauled and not just for its time. Thing is after about three passes the batteries were scorching hot and it was back to the 15 minute quick charger lol. Our boats are mind blowingly fast today and can run consistently with low temps. I'm not so sure that technology will result in new entrants into the hobby but I know that for us FE boaters prices will drop and already impressive reliability will be improved further.
