Hi this is my first post here, I was wondering if someone could help with a boat I'm looking to convert to electric. I have a Dumas Drag'n Fly 40 that I meant to run a .40 nitro, I want to run a brushless setup but after many google searches that mostly bring up cars and planes I was wondering if anyone could make a suggestion for a motor and esc that would be the equivalent to the nitro motor? Thanks in advance

Welcome to OSE! The DragonFly was never noted as a 'great' nitro hull, but it looks cool and should made a decent sport FE conversion. This hull would be a Q Sport Hydro if raced, I'd run a 6S setup for decent speeds and run time. A lot depends on how much you are willing to spend on the project, but a motor with a 40mm diameter can and at least 70mm long with a Kv of 1100 to 1300 should work well for you. This one for instance:

An ESC which handles at least 6S and 180 amps would be needed. Some examples:

Batteries - there is a wide range in price/quality available, but I'd recommend going with a mid-level brand rather than the lowest price. Others will disagree. But 6S with 40C and 5000 mAh as a minimum. That hull has a narrow center section like an outrigger, so finding packs et al to fit while allowing the correct CG will be important - the further forward the better. While for extended run times a 6S2P arrangement would be best, there is probably not enough room, so you may have to go with 6S1P - which will work.
For props, start with an Octura x447, that should get you moving without excessive amp draw - assuming the hull is setup to run loose and doesn't plow (many builders of ~30 years ago reported problems getting this hull to stay on the water, so plowing may not be an issue for you). A lot of new terms here too, just ask if you have questions since this forum has an extensive experience base (just be careful who you listen to as some here have a lot more talk than they do experience). How about a pic of your boat?

Thanks Fluid, that was more helpful than you know lol. I've been all over trying to get answers but I keep getting plane stuff come up. What if I had access to a 2200kv motor? Would that work? If not that's fine. Here are some pics of the hull, ignore the hydrospeed it will be yanked soon, I found the kit unbuilt in my dads garage and I think I was 11 or 12 when I built it so the build quality isn't there lol but here are a couple pics of it
