Mine had a single 540 brushed motor and a mechanical speed controller that would change it from 6 cell nimh to 12 cell for low/high speed. Its unbelievably light isnt it??? I have a KB45 brushless motor on 5s in mine with a T180a ESC, runs nicely.
I havnt got the chance to run it yet ! The guy I did the trade with said it was pretty fast ! I also have a UL 1 which was fast till I put a metal prop on it then I lost all the speed ?? Still learning set ups ! Much harder than making my rc street cars go fast ! lol Im sure I will figure it out somewhere on this site ! The prop was suppose to get me more speed ! The first time i ran it with the stock prop I was amazed how fast the ul was ! If it was slow like it is now I would have put it up on shelf and stuck with my cars and trucks ! i like the boats so much i started trading off most of my dirt rc's for boats
ya im keeping 1 monster truck and building a trailer to haul the boats ! Also keeping my revo's have 1 nitro with blue dot picco and the other is brushless with monster and 2200 and 1 slash brushless The rest of my collection is street cars and the new boats ! Having some real issues with set up !! lost all the speed and cant figure it out ! Which is driving me nutz !!Ive been searching this site and looking at how others have their boats set up !! Also trying to find some guys in my area running boats !! Years ago my uncle ran rc sail boats in lincon ri on a big pond in the lincon woods area!! havnt had a chance to go check it out yet been busy with other crap !! Wife keepin me busy around our new house
Hey I recently built one of those boats they're really cool. My dad got it back in the early 90s and it was shelved for about 18 years. I gutted the inside and fiberglassed the floor for rigidity then added a turnigy t600 heli motor on 4s with a seaking 120 esc x447 prop. Ran kinda hot but soon a leopard 4092 is going in. The boat will make for a fantastic project it looks good and very scale also handles chop extremely well. I will get some pics up later for you, also as makeawake said the hull is incredibly light i had to add an extra battery to get the prop to actually sit below the water line lol.
the guy that had it b4 me modified it and built a sort of out drive for it I will also put up sume pics. later It mite help you ! This boat actually has a hand written date of purchase of 93 from tower hobby for $207.00 That was the year one of my boys was born !! Dam im getn old lol

Hi Derek, I think you and I were texting last week about your clod? Anyways, as far as your ul1, you prolly put the wrong prop on it. Which one did you use?
Hey whats goin on ?? Back from vacation ?? I put the L40x57 Came with the boat ! Was told it would increase speed by 20% depending on water conditions !! What you think?? How deep should it b down !! Am i supose 2 balance it and sharpen ?? Keep seeing that everywhere ! The boat did come with a prop balancer !
Yes you need to balance and sharpen, otherwise that prop is useless. Also, that prop is a tough one to do, you will need someone with experience to do it. Balancing and sharpening isn't just about making the edges of the blade sharp, you must thin each blade over the entire area.
