    Shaft Alignment? New to hobby

How accurate do I need to be in aligning this shaft. Is eyeballing it good enough?DSCF1025.jpgDSCF1026.jpg It's a 5.5mm square flex cable.
If eyeballing isn't good enough how is it done?
    Thanks

What kind of motor coupler do you have that takes a square?

As for alignment, you want it the best you can get.

Is the stuffing tube loose or is it glued in?

If its loose I just assemble the unit. Glue it up and before the glue sets I rotate the assembly by had a bit. This will align it all.

If the stuffing tube is glued down you might be in some trouble. If you have any slop in the bolts push it to the side...

Isn't that a standard 3 piece collet? If so you do not want to use that setup. There will not be enough contact between the square edges of the cable and the coupler. I can pretty much guarantee you will spin the cable in the collet.
You either need a collet designed for a square cable or a cable that doesn't have a square end at the motor.
Nothing I can add to Bass' post pretty much covered it as far as the stuffing tube alignment.
If there is major issues with alignment it is pretty easy to remove a stuffing tube, doesn't take much heat to soften epoxy. I just use my big soldering iron with a chisel tip.

This is in a aquacraft Rio 51 that I'm converting to electric. It is a 3 piece collet that is made for a square flex shaft which is original equipment. I had the collet coupler machined to fit the shaft of the motor it is a professional job from a reputable machine shop I do business with. The stuffing tube is fiber glassed into the hull it is also original equipment.
I guess I can do the best I can and try it. I've looked through the forums and can't find info on aligning shafts.
