First run 32" R2 hobbies cat

I ran my boat for the first time today.

    32" R2 hobbies godspeed cat
    180 seaking esc
2150 KV 4074 motor (similar to the leopard 4074) with leopard cooling can
    Flysky gt-3 radio / receiver
    Graupner 42mm dia x 59mm pitch prop
    2 7.4 v turnigy nanotech 5000mah lipos in series
    7.5 degrees of timing

Boat ran very smooth and turned well, when it was a bit loose (better than slowing down) with almost no porpoising. I was very happy with the first run & my friend mentioned it he thought it ran great as well. I am not 100% sure, but I'd be guessing somewhere between 40 - 45 mph. I'll have to check.

After running pretty hard, we pulled the boat & the motor was ~ 106 degress at thoe hottest point & the esc had 1 hot spot at 130 (I checked it as soon as I pulled the boat out & tape off).

The motor & esc did not seem too hot. So I would like to try my next prop up which is 45mm dia x 63mm pitch.

What are typicaly safe running temps for the motor and ESC ?

    Thanks,
    Ratchet

It depends on the quality of your components. Lower quality parts, 130*F or so is a good maximum. Premium parts, 150* is safe but cooler is always better. If you go to the 45x63 prop, only run for two minutes and bring it in to check temps. You may have to save that prop for cooler weather....or not.

Thanks fluid - I ran in the same pond the other night with the larger prop. First set of packs, ran it pretty easy & all temps were under 110. Second set of packs - I kept it clamped almost the whole time............Only got to 118 after scanning the motor esc, etc. 18 was the hottest point I could find, not sure if it had anything to do with it, but these were all new battery packs.

I guess I'll just keep the temp gun in my bag & check between runs.

What I was really surprised at was the boat starter to porpoise with nothing but a prop change ??? It seemed to run smoother with the smaller diameter prop. I guess I'll have to try to adjust the strut, or maybe try a 42mm dia pitch with more pitch. Right now, I'll continue trying out the carbon reinforced props until I get where I want to be, & then get nively fiished metal prop.
