Is all teflon the same?

I just got done assembling my Pursuit. Next step was the bath tub test.

I did the initial greasing and pulled the shaft out and added more grease.

When I put it in the water it was 1 drip up the tube every 1 second.

3/16" shaft, .187" cable. Teflon was whatever came from the kit seller. Not sure if there is a difference in teflon tubes or not.

Maybe I just need more grease??? I need a cap over the end, I do know that.

Mine did exactly the same, 1 drip /sec. The frustrating thing for me was that with the silicone tube on the motor-end of cable, the static drip stopped, but once in water the cable was like a pump. Do you have a stinger or strut? Mine was bought from the Forum used and it came with a non SpeedMaster stinger which has a gap between the back plate and the moveable stinger tube. I eventually used househood silicone sealent to seal that gap and water finally stopped.
I am not sure what hardware you have since it looks like you built/assembled it, mine had .150 cable with teflon liner, tried a thin one and a thicker one, all leaked, the trick was to seal the gap. DSCN1827_1333.jpgDSCN1856_1360.jpg

Mine is the stock hardware just I assembled it.

Now that I see this, I forgot to install the O-Rings bought for this from Kintec.

I will install those and try the tub test again. I would never think to run it as is

I allways get a little water coming from stuffing tube inside my hulls and I never use the silicone fuel line to seal. As long as the water is not pouring in you will be OK. More grease on the cable will help. Remove strut bushing from strut and leave it attched to propshaft. Then grease your cable and bushing well before sliding cable back into stuffing tube. This way the strut bushing will not act like a squeegy and wipe most of the grease off. I believe the stuffing tube will draw more water while setting still than while running.

Yep you need to seal between transome & stinger with a piece of silicone tube, bad design without a seal.

That's why the Speedmaster stinger has an 0-ring between the bracket base and stinger tube.

I hate to redrill for new hardware before putting in water, but maybe I will.

Lets see what this o-ring mod will do first.

This o ring mod on these stingers has been discused a number of times on this forum, without a seal even more water can get in when the boat is running as water is forced into the tube. simple mod that takes minuets to do just cut a piece of 6mm bore silicon exhaust tube & put in between the hull & stinger, the teflon liner that comes out the hull a bit will hold it in place.
