Where should the COG be on a 30 inch cat?

Where should the COG be and how do you get it, do you put everything in the boat loose and get it to balance at a percent of lenght, say 25 0r 30 percent from the rear?

Depends on the water conditions you will usually encounter but aprox 30% is a good benchmark to start with. Adjust from there.
HK Genesis, DF Vortex, Baja 5T, Lazer ZX-5 sp, XXX, 8T, P51-D Mustang Shangrila, GP Giant P51-D Mustang, Blade 400 3D, with way too many more to list.

Do you do a dry run with your parts and lipos, motor, before you perm mount everything to get the location of the motor etc, to make it balance at the 30% mark?

You should set it up so you can adjust you're batteries to compensate for conditions/speed.The faster it goes the more forward the weight will need to be.Just move them a bit at a time.

        What are you working on?

Just ordered one of those 30 inch sprintcat knockoffs on ebay, it was cheap and I liked the hull, I am going to do my first scratch build. could use some advise on motor placement and probally a few things along the way, figured I would do my first on on a cheaper hull and get some experience.

Really that seems kinda back, but thanks because that and getting the stuffing tube through, were the two things that I really where wondering about.

Not really, I have a t600 1400 kv, I could use, or I was thinking a 4982 or 4092, theres plenty of room the way the hatch is shaped.

Dont know who you are referring to, but others have said 30%(9" from transom), my suggestion puts you between 33.3-36.6%..............cats like the cog up a bit farther.

                      I meant 4082. How do you think a 4082 1800kv on 5s with a t180 esc would be?

I would put the motor at about the CG point.10"-11",everything else is movable. You're ESC can go in front or behind the motor.Batteries in the sponsons on trays so you can strap them in.
