Unexpected final for my run with Osprey today....

    Hello
Taking advantage of the "great" British summer, I took my Osprey for a run today.
All was great, the water almost perfect.I had a few good passes. All in all ok for about 5 minutes.
After that, the noise and the problem show up.I am not gonna tell you what the problem was as I do not want to ruin your pleasure to see the movie.
All recorded with the mounted Go pro Hero camera.Enjoy

I assume this was the stock stuffing tube in the Osprey, the brass tube they use is way to thin ( thinner than K & S tube ) & flexy. Theirs also no supports on the tube apart from the one near the coupling & then where its bonded in at the transome. On mine i changed the tube & bond a triangular piece of ply wood under the tube along the tubes length to prevent this happening.

            Hello Martin,
You are right, it was the original stuffing tube. The motor is ok.
Can you send me some pics from your boat.I am very keen to see how you solved the problem.

I dont have any pics but i just glue a piece of 1/4" ply sat on edge between the hull bottom & the tube. You dont have to use a piece the length of the brass tube, you can just glue 2 or 3 wooden blocks under the tube just to stop the tube from moving around should things start whipping around.

Hey martin, were you using the standard 2 peice flex or a 1 peice? did you oil before hand?

It wasnt my shaft that failed it was Paultbg, i changed my tube as i wasnt happy with the stock tube & also went with a 1 piece flex & stub.

Hello , it was 2 piece ( flex + stub) and was very well grease with marine grease.
I have the feeling that actually the liner gave up first and then the flex and tube...

Yes that was also another reason i changed the stuffing to use without a teflon liner.
