a heli outrunner motor for a genesis cat?!! did i miss a memo??

i was just checking the video threads cause the wind never stopped blowing here so i am bored out of my mind....anyways i ran across this thread and the genesis is running a turnigy 600t heli out runner motor!! wtf. didnt even think that was possible. lol i suck. the cat looked like it was ripping. i believe 59 mph was gps on it. how the heck would you put a cooler on it? or would you need to?? if i remember right from my heli days the outside spins and has an internal fan effect. is it very popular to run these in boats?. how would you collar that thing. old video i guess maybe i am just playing catch up. this was the motor

Here in gauteng south africa there are very few guys thats using water cooling for motor and esc, apparently our dams are to dirty and the water cooling gets blocked up.i allso use fans to cool everything and so far so good.and for that reason outrunners are very popular here.havent tested the watercooling getting blocked theory but im a newby and i heard the same story from alot of guys.

The T600 1400kv is a very popular motor in a boat & very powerfull with bags of torque, well suited to 6s at a fantastic price as well.

My RTR comes stock with a CF2812 outrunner heli motor that Joysway tweaked from the default 1600KV to 3300KV by removing 6 magnets:

              http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...itter-protocol

The water block is hot to the touch after a run (that's after 2-3 minutes of getting her inside the house to take the cowl off), and this is with Boca ceramic bearings installed.

Joysway is pretty smart (except for the bearing part). This motor probably has one of the best weight-to-power ratios. Place it in a lighweight plastic hull and watch things fly.

I run a 3740 outrunner in my Daytona. Plenty of power. It hasn't melted yet, but the hatch may be a different story. BTW... has anyone experienced a failed outrunner in a boat due to over speed/amps? I've seen chunked inrunners, but so far haven't found similar catastrophic failures of outrunners. (no reason, just askin' )

Dang! Who makes a collet adapter? Inother words how do you hold the drive cable to an outrunner?

Same way as an inrunner. An collet. Btw, it is a must to use a thrust bearing with outrunners.

I run a castle 3424 1800kv outrunner in a geico and it rips. Does seem to heat up more which the techs at castle say is normal for a outrunner.
                      white geico w/2200kv 3674 leopard 53.5mph 4s2p, geico w/ 1800kv outrunner 52mph on 4s2p, genesis w/2200kv castle 53.8 on 4s2p, impulse 31 w/2200kv castle, stock p1 and ul-1

Same as inrunner collets. The motor is mounted by the "face" to a typical water cooled mount.

Care to elaborate? I missed this memo. Now you've got me worried.

The only thing holding the motor together longitudinally is a little snap ring. They are designed to spin a geared drive in a heli, not thrust a boat. I learned that the hard way with a T-600. I run one in a 31" mono, and it rips! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HeUYVlIj-w

I should have realized that. I've had one of these apart. That little snap ring has been acting as a thrust bearing.
Not good for me because of my mount, there's no room for a bearing. Can you post a pic of how you installed a thrust bearing?
Sorry for the thread jack. I hope this is useful info. If not, let me know and I'll start a new thread.
