Well! I am not a racer and as many of you know I am not a fan of RTR boats...there are a couple of good RTR boats...one is a hydro. Racing is another matter. I use to rally race, but if you put me in an F1 car today it would be a disaster....one has to hone racing skills and all the best car racer drivers started off in lower classes.

[QUOTE=Fluid;426329]I am saddened to see that the focus of some in this thread seems to be on trying to persuade a new guy to buy or build a "winning" race boat. This IME is the wrong way to go most of the time. Giving a new racer a boat as fast as the top racers run is an invitation to disaster. The new guy has to learn the rules of racing, how to control his boat in traffic, how not to take out other racers and how to actually finish a heat. I have seen far too many new racers give up because their boat burned up (too big a prop, wet inside the boat, etc.) or proved unreliable. Far better to learn how to set up and race first - then worry about "winning" against guys who regardless of equipment are far better racers than the new guy anyway. Actually finishing every heat without damaging their boat or damaging those of their fellow racers should be the goal for the initial season. Winning isn't only about expensive equipment. Running a near-stock RTR is a great way to learn how to be successful. Worry about "winning" next year; over the winter sell the RTR to finance a more advanced boat and practice.

totally agree ,i am just starting to get the hang of it my self ,i want to race BUT,even with one boat in the water i managed to run over him damaging his hull .my pursuit came off unscathed ,Its disappointing when that happen i felt like a ripe noob!lol
not to mentioned the damage to old mates im29,i purchased him a new hatch ,
i can totaly relate to what your saying ,

I don't think the idea is to build a winning boat (inverted commas noted) but to build a 'safe' boat. A boat that is outclassed is a danger to others; the more times it is overtaken the greater chance there is of a crash. As to buying a hull that's winning races, it's as much to ensure good handling as it is speed - a hull that does consistently well is likely to handle well. Good, predictable handling combined with fewer opportunities to collide with other boats (i.e. passed fewer times) makes things safer for everyone.

While I have not officially raced I do run with small groups of folks that meet at our local pond regularly & will admit it is scarey but I do want a boat that will keep up and handle well with a "stock motor" as my strategy to date has been to hang in the middle to back and wait for everyone to flip or drop out for some other reason as I can usually out last most the guys I run with now :) but I know the guys I want to race with are going to be much better drivers & they push their equipment pretty hard.

So it sounds like the Pursuit or Revolt may be the way to go? Watching some of the running videos of the Pursuit I was impressed with how well it handled rough water. With eather boat I'm going to have to do some mods it appears (new motor in the pursuit or new ESC in the Revolt). Looks like I can get the ARTR Revolt for $260 with Cupon, or the Impulse RTR for $300 vs $420 for the Pursuit (out of stock for 2 weeks). Looks like the hardware is nicer on the Pursuit, I would assume the haul is better too? is it worth the extra $$ knowing I already have a motor to put in it?
