These are some pictures of what is left of my cc 120 esc. It had been running hot so during the week I shortened the wiring and proped down to try to get it to run cooler. I'm not sure where I've gone wrong on the setup of this boat but I'm almost ready to give up on it and start fresh.

How many cells were you running ? and what motor?
I fried a cc80 pretty quick one time because they really cannot handle 6 cell lipo or 22 volts.Current project 45" aeromarine xXx twins.
I came here to do two things Chew bubble gum and Kick ass, And im all out of bubblegum. -

ESCs will take excessive amps for a time, but the damage is cummulative. They may not fail until later with what is considered a conservative setup. Because you said it had gotten "hot" before, that is likely when the damage happened. I once lost a Hacker Navy 77 on a conservative run - but I had abused the controller for over a year first. With the much higher power of LiPos over NiMH cells, ESCs are more easily stressed. We have to be smarter in how we use/abuse them if we want them to last.
Be certain to sent the burned parts back to Castle, you can get a new controller for far less than the new price.

I will contact castle this week and let you know what they say. Time to start thinking of my next build, the heat of blowing the esc damaged the hull beyond repair. Fortunately the lipos were far enough away and were fine. Any SuggestionsRico 29, Sprintcat 34, Insane FE 30 Hydro, 43'' Aeromarine ConquestComment

My budget would limit me to 30'' to 32'' hulls. I have a 9xl, hydra 120, and 4s lipos to work with(could change motor...its cheap) I was thinking of a delta 29 or cyber storm 33. I would like something that ran low to mid 40s and stable in small chop becuase of where I use it.Rico 29, Sprintcat 34, Insane FE 30 Hydro, 43'' Aeromarine ConquestComment

OK it is more expensive than the 2 you have suggested, BUT the gellcoat finish is so good you don't need to spend money painting it, it doesn't need any internal reinforcing as it has carbon fibre inside, it handles real well in the speed range you are talking about, and last but not least it looks like a real boat.
