    Genesis help

Just bought a genesis and its too slow. All my buddies are beating me with their spartans with 3s lipos. I already have the seaking 180amp. Now whats the next step? My goal is to be around 65-70mph. What motor should I get and what batteries?

I run a genesis with the same esc, a leopard 4082 (1600kv) on 6s and an M445 prop and it's quick maybe mid 50's? A guy was running a spartan on 6s at my lake last weekend and it looked slower but don't know whether it was running flat out or not.

At 70mph you are not driving or having fun.
You are only doing few straight lines with a lot of stress on you that something could go wrong...
I really would like to see a Spartan doing 60 MPH on 3S as you say.

You would be really hard pressed to get the Genesis over 60 mph without it flipping over. That is with ideal running conditions, smooth water and no wind whatsoever. If you want that kind of speed from a cat you should get one much wider and longer. Even a mono hull at those speeds is something for an expert driver. As far as the Genesis is concerned what setup are you currently running besides the esc?

Well here we go again. I really do own and run a Genesis. I love the boat. But I very carefully try to stay away from the mph discussions because GPS readings may not be truthful (average over several runs maybe). I run with and against Spartans every weekend. for our little park pond 3S is the most common battery configuration. My Genesis is never slower on equal batteries. Every weekend somebody will show up with 6S and other new stuff trying to be the top dog for the day. I am afraid to run with the Spartans on 4S much less 6S becuase they do not hold a line and will spinout or hook at anytime. My Genesis will track straight and hold my lane with any of them. Please understand I do not make full speed 10 foot turns, seems park racers think that is what you do. So if you have the room and you really want to make your Genesis run up around 60mph I think it can be done. Hope you have upgraded your flex cable to 3/16th and perhaps added some additional cloth to strengthen the motor mount area. One big warning. if you are using the stock hardware and the break-away rudder with the nylon shear pins never replace them with metal (paper clips?) unless you have a lot of floatation and are willing to rebuild a ripped out transom.

I am just looking for a straight line boat basically. Where can I order cloth or pick it up from a local store? Im going to order the 3/16 flex cable but I want to also order my motor along with it. I already purchased 3s zippy 5000 30c. Im just trying to figure out what the best motor to get would be?

In which case I would recommend my setup, 4082 1600kv on 6s with an M445 prop. I would also strongly recommend using an offset rudder (search my posts for an easy mod to do this) as it will improve handling and set your strut height a few mm above the bottom of your sponson as a starting off point.

3/16 is a must as well, this setup is plenty fast enough for the hull and even then conditions need to be very good to open it up fully

Do you have a local hobby shop? Very common item in most real hobby stores. If not how about a West Marine. you want the lightest cloth you can find and online they list 4oz cloth. I would rather 2 oz but that can work.

Regarding a motor? I will let some of the experts in this area take that one. I would think a 4082 Leopard or Castle in the 1200 KV range, nothing higher than 1400 KV. Would serve your interest.

Unfortunately on my Genesis I have had to replace the nylon break-way screw with brass because I found the nylon shears after a few runs. Don't like having to do it but even after 15 mins running or so, the nylon screw is already quite deformed. I have increased the size of the water inlet in the rudder which no doubt contributes to more drag on the rudder. Damage to the transom is a real concern to me, if the rudder hits anything. Top speed is around 60 mph.

That breakaway screw has saved my transom twice on my Daytona. Second time I was actually using a bit of antenna tube since I didn't have another nylon screw. I'm very glad I did not use a metal screw.

I've actually filled the rudder pickup on mine and use two through-hull pickups.

I found mine sheared quite easily until I tightened up the other hinge screw on the rudder so maybe give that's try? It still lifts up but is stiff and doesn't put the full pressure on the nylon screw

Can you tell me what shaft I need from ose? I am going to do the same set up.

also will the x445 be fine?

I would recommend the 3/16th welded flex shaft and the m445 prop. The x445 prop is nearly the same but the m series has a "back cut" (blade shape) that works real well for cats. The x series has more lift and cats do not need more lift.
