    Darn customs

I ordered a pursuit from HK. I'm in the UK, it's been sitting in customs for nearly a week and it says on the tracking that they have revised the customs charge! I think that as HK play down the price of the boat customs have decided this is not the true value and made up how much it is. I'm not happy but it's the chance you take. I'm just waiting on a letter to see how much it is plus royal mail hit you with either an £8 or £13 charge just for the plesure of paying your customs charge for you! I wouldn't mind but I payed for registered mail not ems and they upgraded me to ems, a good think you would think but by ems I always get hit for charges and it takes just as long because customs hold it for ages. Rant over.

We just get slammed every which way in the UK. The only truly great thing about our country is free healthcare! 20% tax on all we buy is a joke

How come you didn't order from astec models? Better electrics than HK and can't see it being much cheaper with shipping etc

£230 from astec and £150 delivered from HK, assuming you dont get hit for customs. The astec still isn't what I would have in it anyway (same motor as the HK version) I'm putting a 4074 2200kv and T180 esc in. Prob still be cheaper with customs.

              Hello
You do not pay custom tax.
You are paying only the VAT (20%) and RM fee.(13.50 pounds)

                Hi Guys ,

Similar predicament to what I just faced with UK Customs , as I did not have clearly printed on the outside of box " For Temporary Import Only " with my boat I sent to Roy Cooper of www.fastonwater.co.uk in Lowestoft , Brittish Customs wanted to charge me £92 as they believed box was for permanent import . So my boat was sent back to me in Central Australia , Roy was gracious enough to pay for its second trip , after i marked on the the side of box " For Temporary Import Only " this crap goes on everywhere , not just limited to UK ...

Wow that's harsh. I was very lucky, I picked the boat up yesterday and the total charge was £24 £11 import tax and £13 administration fee. It's the administration fee that gets me. Plus the tax in general we pay in the UK I think is very harsh, take for example fuel, a litre of diesel cost me anywhere from £1.35-£1.45 and my car takes around 50 litres to put that into perspective you guys in the US pay by the gallon which is around 4 litres £5.40. About 40% of that is tax!

You are quite ok... over here I have 0% custom taxes, 0% administration fee, but 24%VAT!! I really hate these guys, especially the attitude, always looking at you like you're a criminal...

i remember how expensive gas was back in 96 in europe something like 4-5 us dollars a litre thats crazy, i was stationed in vicenza italy for the last 3 years of my army service. now ny we pay 10% taxes and no free health care, i would pay the extra 10 % for the medical. i guess in any country there are goods n bads.

I suppose I shouldn't moan too much. I've had keyhole surgery on my knee 4 weeks ago and it didn't cost me a penny.
