Stinger placement for a deep v mono?

Hi guys,

I am currently building a 46" deep v mono with a single 5692 and 1/4 driveline, my question is I've read that you should offset the stinger to counteract prop walk? Is this correct and by how far also how high up from the bottom of th 'V' should the bottom of the stinger be?

I think what you really mean is torque roll. Some would say to drill aprox. 3mm to the right. Others would say you can overcome the problem by other means. As to the height, does your stinger have elongated mounting holes that will allow about 4mm
of up/down mounting? (most do). If so, I would drill high, but no more than 16mm, and that's pushing it! Struts and wet wells diffenetly have an advantage with greater movement.

Current practice is to NOT offset the stinger to counteract prop walk. Even one of the biggest proponents of this practice (John Finch) has changed his mind in the past few years. The problem with offset is it promotes chine walk; it is easier to control prop walk than it is to stop chine walk. The heigth of the prop above the vee varies with the hull, weight and speed - too low and you'll chine walk badly and fly off the water. Too high and the hull will run too wet. Making a vertical adjustment with a stinger really means you have to use a wet well for the stuffing tube, as with a strut.

This 10S Hurricane has it's stinger centerline set about 1/2" above the vee, and it has been shortened about 1/2" as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGfsTyLk2jg

Sheesh, just asking a question. I realize it's a smaller hull, but it's still a mono. Honestly, I don't know if Revolt is offset or not, it just looked like it from some of the photos I've seen.

I can't comment on the offset for a revolt but regardless I can tell you on mono's and deepvees any offset from my experience is not going to help after testing and experimentation. Outriggers are a different story. Offset doesn't change much but angling the thrust angle helps a great deal. We introduce a 3 degree left thrust angle to counter the natural right hand curve most outriggers exhibit when the rudder blade breaks off (don't ask). Cats seem to vary from boat to boat but I like a mild thrust angle to the left on the cats as well.

I follow the remarks about rudder offset and the question about offset to the left or the right and this is widely misunderstood. It is only really important on monos and deepvees. Cats and outriggers it doesn't make much difference. Just my opinion.
