Mike, you say you have experence with nitro riggers & hydros, but to advise you on a choice of a fast FE boat we need to know more about what you want to do with your FE boat. Here's a few questions for you:
1. Why do you want the "largest" boat? If the waters you plan on running in are too choppy for a NAMBA P class (34" max) and need a larger boat thats one thing. But, otherwise you may be better off with a smaller RTR like the ProBoat Mystic available here on OSE. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=dh-PRB4075. With a few ESC/motor upgrades it will hit mid 50s easily on 4S2P. If you still want a large FE boat........................the following applies to BIG FE boats ONLY;
2. Is the boat just for fun or do you want to race? If it's just for fun, there are no limits on length or the number of LIPO cells (max voltage) you can run. Want more speed - add more LIPO cells.
3. If you want to race Offshore or SAWs there are hull length and voltage limits. NAMBA's "largest" FE class is T, limited to 60" in length & 40 Volts (10S). Offshore FE boats must be designed to corner well and are the most popular to run or race. SAW boats are more like a top fuel dragster or Bonnieville world speed record design - built to go very fast in a straight line, but usually corner poorly. I'll discuss Offshore FE here.
4. What type of hull do you want? Catamaran/single hull/rigger or hydro? I recommend cats. Cats are the most popular and have many styles to choose from. Plus cats are fast, roomy for motor(s)/ESC(s)/LIPOs, & handle well.
5. How much money do you want to spend? You can build a fast & great handling Offshore boat RTR for around $600-$800. Depending on hull/motor/esc. costs can go over $2000 per competitive NAMBA FE race boat.
6. Whatever hull type you want, I recommend buying a hull designed for a GAS engine. The hulls are stronger & are easily converted to FE, and they all are LARGE.
