Hi everyone, I have a stock genesis, that I would like to build up some, I was thinking of this set up, two turnigy nanoteck 3s 5000mah 65c 130c packs, a turnigy 180 amp esc and either a leopard 4082 1800kv or a leopard 4092 1730 motor. I woild upgrade to 2/16 flex shaft for the extra power and use a bec and disable the one on the t180. Does this sound good and would the 4082 give a longer run time and what would be a good starting prop size, thanks.

Well I really cant tell ya, I have not run it at all yet, its a big boat for only 4s and I think if you go more than that in stock form, your going to smoke the esc or motor, I may run it stock just to get a speed reading, but it is a nice well built boat. You can see tons of them on youtube at every stage from stock to 80 mph, Its more of a strait line boat you have to slow down in the corners, if you want speed it a good boat to get and hop up. A good all around boat id the hobby king single motor apparition, it is wider and handles well and is cheap and probally faster stock. I am surprised no one has repleyed to my question as to if my setup that I want to use is a good one, I am no pro, but learning more every day and I love these fast electrics, hopes this helps you.Comment

Twin Turnegy 3S 5000mAh. i.e 6S total. Sounds good. Anything 40C or greater should be OK
Turnegy 180 ESC. Good choice
Leapoard 4082. Good motor, but I agree with Rumdog. Don't go higher than 1600kv if you are running 6S
3/16 inch flex shaft upgrade (c/w required strut and bearing upgrage).
Re separate BEC. Opinion is divided on this one. I use the internal BEC on my T180 running 6S and have had no problems. This may be due to circuit design changes in the later model T180 units. Your choice.
M445 prop is a good starting prop and should give you 60mph with the above upgrades.
Cheers,

Love6S, I see that JonD pretty much answered your basic questions. Just let me add this. I too have a Genesis and truely love it. I have searched and read virtually everything I could on this boat and other forums regarding the Hobby King Genesis and I find for some reason more guys that don't actually have one are willing to discuss the Genesis than the ones that actually own one. No problem but curious situation. A lot of times the answers go like I have a friend that loves his Genesis, or I know a guy that hates his Genesis. So read carefully and take a shot at what is really a great boat and in my opinion one of the best values around. That said if you want email me your phone number abd I will talk at length with you about this boat and fgeel I can answer almost any question you might have about the Genesis.
Let me say something here that noone ever talks about. Scale proportions. I have never been one to get all fuzzy over scale appearence models but I am connected in a small way with the full scale offshore racing community and fell in love with the first full size Mystic 50 foot turbine boat that I ever saw up close and personal. The Genesis is a perfect small copy of the Mystic 50. Few of the other so called Mystic knock off copies can say that. In particular the Proboat mystic model or the Miss Geico approximation of a mystic probably are wonderful models but trade off something in the performance dept when compared to the Genesis. Yes, the Genesis is a good straight line boat as is the real 210 mph Mystic. Yes the proportions of the real Mystic and the Genesis are around 3.2 times as long as it is wide. The more popular Aquacraft and Proboat cats run around 2.2 times as long as they are wide. So the wider cats will not roll over in a hard too fast too tight a turn quite as easily the Genesis might. On the other hand I have never hooked my Genesis or spun it out in a turn either. I like to heat race and believe driving is part of the package. 90 percent of the guys that bash the handling of the Genesis do not appreciate that skil level or care to know the limits in their driving. Just my opinion.
Just to add to JonD's remarks, I agree that 6S on the Genesis pushes this boat to the limits. Yes I believe the 80 mph you tube videos and if that is your desire the Genesis will do it well. I also believe the boat is a little delicate to handle this kind of abuse and speed without damage so take that into consideration as well. Upgrading to the 3/16th flex cable is a must. Raise the strut up as high as it will go and set the strut dead straight and level sitting on a table no angles at all. What ever throw you think you need for the rudder movement cut it in half and you will be fine. Perhaps in another posting we can discuss water intrusion into the sealed motor hatch areas. All Genesis seem to do this.
Good luck and again email me with your phone number and I can help you more.

Hey guys I actually own a Genesis and thought I would share my experiences. As far as rtr, this boat isn't really it. It takes some minor adjustments and some improvements to the driveline but this is a fairly well built boat for the $. I would recommend reinforcing the motor mount with some heavy fiberglass cloth and upgrading the cooling system to a dual inlet/outlet configuration.
