Almost looks like if you hit something and break the break away screw, you can still steer it in so you.don't have to go swimming. Just so it keeps the rudder in the water if u hIt something.

I got a rudder where the bottom screw is actually thru a radius slot. So it technically could kick up. So one screw it pivots on. The other is just to add more force to keep the rudder where it should be.

Evidently this trusty shock absorber will help keep the rudder in correct position or return it after catching something. Nevermind the pushrod being bent to hell!

I run 30w in my rudder shock for smooth conditions, step it up to 60w when it gets rough out.

I can't believe you guys are taking the piss out of this.
They've been using springs around the rest of the world for ages to snap the rudder back into place after hitting something in the water. At least you can finish the race. Don't forget, in Europe & Hong Kong & China etc, the races are 6 minutes long,& it's the most number of laps completed in that time that earns the points. Taken out in the first couple of laps with a kicked up rudder would be pretty depressing. There are times when I wish I had a return spring fitted to some of my boats.
But I must say, that is the first commercial compression one I've seen. They are usually tension springs below the bracket & pivot point. Don't be too quick to dismiss it.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!
