Im just looking to a nice gloss white base coat with some nice decals. I really think this can be done nicely with rattlecans.
I will however look into a bodyshop because a boat this nice does deserve a great paintjob...which is why I wasnt happy with the first airbrush job..it was
just way to flat and dull.
The problem with the rattle can is the paint chips very easily...

I used enamel paint from a local hardware shop and agree it does chip easily

Tips- use panel wipe and wear gloves as greasy fingers will mess up the finish and you will have to rub back and start again (I know!!) lots of light layers and then a couple of thick coats seemed to work well for me, I then used 1 can of clear lacquer for light coats over the decals and a 2nd can for 3 thick layers oh and only use the best quality masking tape (again ask me how I know!!)

As I have said before I use rattle cans and the brand I use is Tamiya TS...expensive...Yes, and no need for clear coat and very easy to fix if you damage the paint.

Tamiya TS is the best I've used so far.

I paint for a living automotive base and clear would probably give you the results your looking for,if you do use paint out of a rattle can be sure to use automotive clear.

True, but most people do not know that the base coat has no shine and after clear coat is used it is very difficult to repair. Also never use a clear that is not compatible with your other paint!!

                  Matt,
Don't know if you can get blue tape on your side of the pond. It's called professional painters tape - it's clean release & line less, supposedly. Apparently there's also red.
Yep I always use the blue tape but the stuff to buy is the 3M brand as I found cheap blue tape which ruined my first attempt there is also green tape called "frog tape" which people are raving about! Not sure whether that's available in the states

I use the green Frog Tape when painting my RC Truck body. Works very well and is available most everywhere in the US. 100_1442.jpg
I would love to repaint my Motley Crew with a custom job.

All done using Krylon including clear coat. And its all paint no stickers on the boat.

I agree with Chris and Sir Douggie. If you need to spot in the enevitable chips, scratches or worse ( racing almost guarantees this), clearcoat makes it difficult to get it right. Conversely, I will use Duplicolor Acrylic ENAMEL clear when I need to; it goes on much thicker than laquer clear and needs far less coats to get tha "deep" look. Resists tapedown peeling better than anything I've tried. Again, you shouldn't shoot laquer over enamel but enamel over laquer works O.K.

1/4 blue vinyl tape for no bleed paint lines.
