    Advantage of a 4082 2000kv over 4074 2000kv?

I'm on the lookout for a new motor and I'm interested to know what advantages I could see from fitting a 4082 2000kv over a 4074 2000kv? The rest of my setup would be a T180 but not sure what prop! I could use this motor in either my genesis or pursuit both on 2x2s 14.8v I guess the 4082 will turn more prop but surely I would only go with something like an m445, x445 on both motors.

yeah its kinda like more "torque" but ive found spinning bigger props usually results in my collets letting go when the boats 100M from the shore
ive got a 4074 on a persuit and it gets warm yet in the genesis its cold

I run the turnigy XK-4074 2000kv in my genesis and it works well. I was thinking of putting that in the pursuit when I get it and dropping a leopard 4082 2000kv In the genesis, but not sure if the leopard is worth the extra pennies over the turnigy XK-4074. I'm kinda thinking for what I would gain its not worth it.

The 4082 is up to 3500w the 4074 is only 2600w, the 4082 will have more torque & take more prop.

A cat hull takes less effort to push through the water, a mono due to more wetted area & more resistance draws more amps resulting in hotter motor etc.

So you think the 4082 would be better suited to the pursuit?

The 4082 will be faster than a 4074 in both the Genesis & Pursuit.

Personally if i was going for a 4082 on 4s i would look at the 2200kv, this is a custom wind that OSE has along with the free 68mm long water cooler for a good price. Its also a y wind motor.

I've seen that one but the XK-4074 is only $57 delivered. I only sport run on a Sunday so can't justify the extra. Plus the wife would kill me

The cheapest you will get a Leopard 4082 is from Ebay (from Hong Kong) around £65 delivered with no water cooler, their also the car version where the wires come out the side of the can. In the 40series Leopards they have different internals between the car & boat motors, all the other leopards ie 28series,36 & 56 are all the same inside. The 40 series boat motors have more magnets to produce more torque for obvious reasons in a boat. Unfortunatally Turnigy only offer a 4082 1600kv in their motors to which i believe HK have been out of stock for some time, a friend has one of these motors in his Genisis on 6s & runs around 55mph i believe.

It's all about using the motor properly for each application needed. You may not actually need a 4082 motor. I think it's funny when I see guys with 4082 motor in Miss Geico's and hulls like that, but their only spinning x642 prop with it. What's the point?!?!? They could go with a 3674 motor of the same kv and be fine. If you go with a larger can motor, take advantage of its power. Make sure you actually need that much power, if not it's just a waste. If your only going to run a m445 size prop, going to the larger can is only going to cost you more money, without much if any performance increase. Both motors are going to be loaded the same. JMHO.

I think I have to agree. I'm not racing so just a Sunday bash down the pond doesn't really warrant the cost of the 4082 I don't think.

I agree a 4082 in a Geico is overkill but in a Genesis or Pursuit being larger hulls will benefit with the 4082 over the 4074. The 4074 is still a good choice in the Pursuit but the 4082 is a better choice i believe in the Genesis.
