another cat build help needed understanding lingo here. please translate thanks!!!

hey guys i am trying to get my genesis going now that i think my single drive kos is going well. here is the base of my problems.....i dont understand everyones lingo lol! i have a leapord 4082 1250kv i believe. my swordfish 200a esc that i got with the boat was bad right from the
get go and i am wondering if i should get the same one or get something else. i am looking at a turnigy 180a or the seaking 180a. which look to be the same to me. a have two 5400mah 11.1v lipos with a 20c rating that i am planning on running in series. so i am searching on here for props and esc that will work for this set up and this is where i scratch my head. first is what is a t180?? that seems to be a very popular controller. as far as props what the heck is x642 or m645 mean. those look to be popular props. i am looking to get about 50 out of her. i guess once i get all this figured out would the above listed "stuff" get me to that point?? lol thanks in advance for the help

    Hi,

If I were you I would read the different sections on this forum here to get into the "Lingo" and learn alot.
Its really helpfull and you see ideas passing by that can prevent you from thinking hours on a issue in the future.

Regarding your question about the t180: That is a Turnigy 180 (so exactly the one you were looking into)
I think the prop question will partially be solved by looking here: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ions-somewhere.......
Although there is more Lingo in that topic so it could be that you get more questions ;-)

    Have fun!

      Limited,

One thing that stands out on your setup is the 5400mah batteries with 20C rating.... That seems a bit low to me. And that might be why you had issues with the SF 200 going out. I don't think the batteries could supply the amperage needed to the ESC, making it starved for power.

I would suggest 30C MINIMUM on 5000mah batters or bigger.

If the motor and esc are trying to pull more bower from the batteries than can be supplied, the esc works very hard and heats up fast.... Just a thought...

Ah damn I should have put that one together, t180/ turnigy 180a. Lol. Yea the Swordfish never powered up on the first hook up. So the discharge on the batteries are to low...suck! Is 50mph out of reach with what I currently have? And is the t180 a good esc?

          Limited,

Hey, maybe i misstated then. The SF ESC never power up?.... That is not the C rating..... I assumed it fried...Interesting.

Still, for high amp draw setups, I would go with higher C rated batts.... As to 50 mph? I can't say for sure.... Not familiar with your boat or motor.... Oh, and you doing 6S on that setup?
Sorry, I would wait for more feedback on this one as I have no experience with this paticular setup. Good Luck though...

Mike, the Turnigy T180 & Seaking T180 are the same ESC, different labels. Either way get one, the're pretty much bullet proof unless you really exceed their specs.

Props. Those are Octura props. An X447 a 1.4" prop pitch, 47mm in diameter. An X647 has a 1.6" pitch, also 47mm in diameter. Check this out http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/cat...ura+Propellers.

Speed. To get started check this out http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/conversion.htm. NOTE: The first 4 numbers on a brushless motor denote the can diameter & length in milimeters. The last 4 numbers are the KV (KiloVolts), or RPM/Volt. i.e, 4074 2200KV is a 40mm wide by 74mm long motor, and will turn at 2200 RPM per Volt. Given a 4cell LIPO battery (14.8 volts), that motor would turn about 32,565 RPM - a good place to start.

Keep reading the Q&A forum & "Builds" forums and you will grow wise & happy. Buy your FE parts here from OSE & you'll be a happy camper. Good prices, best customer service anywhere.

              Hope that helps. JIM

Thanks for the links there. Good info there I don't quite get the speed calculator but not worried about that now. Gonna get a seaking tomarrow and just check speeds and temps from there I guess...

IFR= Infared temp reader. It's a pistol like thermometer that shines an infared beam of light & reads the temp of what ever you point it at. About $15 at Harbor frieght. JIM
