    Apparition drive questions...help!

Been lurking on here a while, have a app that runs great but was thinking about upgrading the flex shaft and drive hardware. Don't know what fits and what doesn't, I'm sure it's been answered but I couldn't find anything... I run 6s single tacon 3674 with a 120a hobbywing with a m445 prop, boat scoots good, I'd say 55+ and handles good just gonna reinforce the deck and put a better motor mount in so wanted to upgrade flex while I was there. Any info and or pics would be awesome! Thanks, I'll post some gopro video soon from this weekend!

Jerry, many unknown factors here. I don't know where in CA you live, but if you want to see the best that NAMBA has to offer, check out the FE guys & thier boats at a Legg Lake race. http://www.namba.com/content/showdis...=19&Contact=28 The FE National are only 2-3 weeks away.

If you just want to have fun FE boating, you can stick to the 6S setup. But if you want to race, it would be the NAMBA P Offshore class & limited to 4S2P. Assuming you have the 2200KV version motor, a check of the OSE speed/prop charts shows it running 43,956 loaded RPM with an estimated 82 MPH. Please, add some pics of your boat & we can try to see why it's running 55 MPH, and put a Garmin GPS in it to check your actual speed. You'll also need an infared pistol thermometer to check Motor, ESC & LIPO temps after a full runs. Should be >120 degrees for the motor/ESC, > 100 LIPOs. If you are just looking for fun, I don't recommend taking the Apparition much above 65 MPH - it's likely to get airborne or flip it. That's NOT fun.

I have a similar Apparition still running the stock 4mm drive, Leopard 4074 2200KV, T180 ESC, 4S2P, and X646. It hits about 64 MPH. With a 3674 3270 - same setup, it should hit low 90s. That is, of course, a SAW build.

While you're in there glassing, I'd replace the stock 4mm drive & strut with a 3/16" drive system (stuffing tube, flex drive, and 3/16" Strut). I think you are asking too much of the 120 Amp ESC. If/when it fries, get a T180 ESC. Hopes this helps. JIM

      Jim,
I live in Corona, im going to try and attend that, be fun to see some action. Been in the RC truck thing forever and bought this boat last year on a wim, lots of trial and error but i think im close. I know i messed up getting the 120 esc but it seems to be holding in there, temps are usually in check as of now, my packs are around 85-90 and esc never bumps over 130ish and i havent temped this new motor yet buts its way cool. I feel like the boat has more potential but im unsure where to start, i may have got the wrong motor? its a 1300kv tacon (leopard knock off i guess) and i feel like i shouldve went 2000ish on kv but i wanted to run cool with the 6s. I gps'd it last summer and it went 54. That was with an m442 and since then i didnt mess with the boat until this past weekend. So over the winter i ordered a x445 and an m445 and they seem to work much better.
Not sure if i go up on prop? and if the motor/esc would live. It seems to run really good were its at but id like to see somewhere around 65 reliably if thats possible. The stock drive seems cheap so i thought i may have been losing a little there? the drive dog just doesnt seem to fit right.
Been looking at the conversion stuff on FCR so i think ill order that and a stuffing tube before i glass the deck.

Thanks for your help, hopefully you have more for me

          Jerry-
Thats cool Jerry. I grew up in Garden Grove & used to shoot rabbits just S/E of you in Parris, and drove thru Corona to get there. Probably has changed a bit since 1963.

Welcome to FE my friend. You are off to a great start. Sooooooooo much to learn in this FE boat hobby! I've only been doing FE for two years now - man what a learnig curve! Not cheap, but dirving my cats & meeting the great guys who race them is worth it to me.

With a little work on the CG & drive strut height/angle you should see 65 soon. If not maybe we (or a new leopard motor) can help get you there. JIM

PS: I too raced trucks and buggies with some success in the brushed motor days. Do you find that RC truck experience helpful with FE boats?
