    data logging/recorder unit

I apologise if this subject is addressed somewhere on this forum but I haven't found it. I am in the market for a data logging device to tell me pertinent information regarding peak current demands and any extra data to help me analyise battery and esc operation during a run with certain props and motor KV ratings. I am surprised at the number of guys that can so casually state this information from their models during discussions for other post that the use of these devices must be more common than I thought.

Therefore, what do you recommend? What unit should I consider and where can I find these devices for sale? I do not need a telemetry reporting device just a unit that will store the data and let me read it or see a graph later on my computer.

Simple, small and can tell you everything, next purchase for mine will be the GPS module.
The software is easy to understand.
I have the elogger V4 as I believe most others do as well.
I think it's rcgroups that has a forum all about eagletree products with a lot of info for DIY modules.
I found that by moving one pin in the connector I can use all the modules that came with Spektrum radio telemetry (useless btw! Not enough range!)
You can make your own custom temp probes for just a couple bucks a piece.
Some of the frsky accessories may work as well, don't know haven't tested any yet.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

      Thanks for your reply.

I guess the V4 is what I want. Is direct from Eagle Tree the only source?

Where can I find the info to build my own temp probes?

Last question: The ads say the max current the V4 can handle is 100 amps. What happens if I pull more than that?

      Thanks again,

      Dave

One major problem with the Eagle Tree and similar systems to consider is the added resistance it imparts to high-amp-draw power systems. Club members have experienced issues from extra wire length, extra connectors, and the resistance/impedence of the logging system itself.

Personally I prefer the Castle ICE controllers, which include data logging without the periferal sensors the ET requires. It will also log over 300 amps without problems - why have a logger which won't tell you what you really need to know? But the ET system does have options that the ICE controllers do not, and many seem to use it without problems.

Nope you can buy from the OSE store right here.
There is a 150 amp version that has wire leads with no connectors so you can use what you want.
You can adapt the 150 easily enough to work up to 300 amps. There are instructions on here someplace from a winter thread. Search should find it.
I haven't been there in a loong time but I'm sure on the RCGroups.com forum there is a section about the eagletree loggers.
All you need is a thermister and a servo lead to make your own temp probe, they have part numbers on that forum, I made a few but they are covered in heatshrink or I'd give you the numbers I used.

You can buy several speedos with data logging features. MGM, Schulze, YGE and Castle just to name a few. You dont need to have a seperate data logger, but, on that note. A independant logger does allow you to move it between hulls and leave the rest intact. If you look for a V1 Eagle Tree, it uses an inductive amp pickup and does not add any circuit IR. Plus there are other data loggers like the Medusa system. Do a bit of research and you will get what suits your setups.

Hifei has the swordfish plus esc's out with data-logging. I like the the swordfish 200s. Haven't tried the data-logging on these yet, but I want to try wanna of the air versions maybe in one my edf's or my 50" T28.

                Voltron

I ordered one of these to measure speed...it's small enough to fit in a pill bottle with a LiPo or you can plug it into the receiver/BEC. The plane guys use them.
I'm also using the Swordfish Plus 120 that has it's own data logger...sample output below.

Most the points have been hit. I have an eagle tree system and enjoy the benefit of being able to switch from model to model ,but you can do the same thing with an esc. I will say once you get the logger and a few sensors in the boat wires start piling up. I like the ability to add gps and see how it correlates to other stuff.

If you have any planes ET also has a number of features i don't believe are offered by any of the loggers built into the esc.

                  Depends on your situation.
